West Ham Make Offer For "Amazing" £45m Whiz

West Ham United are reportedly eyeing an electric player who also happens to be a target for champions of England, Manchester City…

What’s the latest West Ham transfer news?

According to one Foot Mercato journalist on social media, the Irons have made a verbal offer for Jeremy Doku, who has been described as a ‘priority.’

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the reigning Premier League champions are set to enter the ‘crucial stages’ of the deals for the Rennes winger and Lucas Paqueta.

It was previously reported that Rennes are seeking a fee in the region of £45m.

Nevertheless, West Ham remains an interested party, and it would be a sensational coup for David Moyes.

What is Jeremy Doku's play style?

The 21-year-old has been at Rennes since 2020 and has been prominently etched in the limelight across the last couple of years.

Back in 2021, Kylian Mbappe eulogised over Doku, saying: “Recently, I was speaking with my father about a player who impressed me because of his speed qualities, that is Doku, at Rennes.

"In five years as a professional, I have never seen someone from a standing start demonstrate so much power."

Jeremy-Doku-West-Ham-target

Mbappe’s claim is supported by flabbergasting evidence as in the 2020/21 campaign, Doku, who was hailed as “amazing” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, completed more dribbles (110) than any other played aged 23 and under in Europe’s top five leagues.

Fast-forward to 2023 and the 5 foot 8 sensation is still up to the same tricks, ranking within the best 1% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for shot-creating actions, progressive carries, and successful take-ons per 90 over the past 365 days.

His insane dribbling ability means his rate of 11.1 take-ons per game was the highest of any player (with at least 900 minutes played) in the top five leagues in 2022/23, with a success rate of 60.4%.

Moreover, The Athletic’s Ahmed Walid described the attacker as a ‘ball-to-feet winger’ who is able to manipulate his positioning to present himself as a ‘progressive passing option.’ The journalist extends his analysis, highlighting his ‘immaculate ball control and knowledge of how to use his body’ to complement his awe-inspiring trickery and dribbling.

Whilst he has always been blessed with this gift, the missing component of his repertoire was some meaningful output, having just three Ligue 1 goals in his first two years in France.

However, in the most recent season, the Belgian has rectified this, with eight goal contributions in 13 domestic starts. These numbers mean that Doku also sits in the highest 1% for non-penalty goals per 90 and the top 18% for assists per 90.

Signing a player of this calibre would go a lot of the way to compensating for West Ham’s Carlos Borges howler.

Did Carlos Borges nearly sign for West Ham?

The Manchester City starlet was on the verge of joining the 2023 Europa Conference League winners for £14m, but the deal was hijacked by Ajax, who completed the signing for £17.3m.

Last season, Borges recorded 47 goal involvements in 33 appearances across all competitions for the U21 side.

Indeed, it appeared that West Ham were on course for a true gem, and possibly even a player more prolific than Doku. This certainly heightened the displeasure around their eventual fumble, given the player’s scintillating talent.

However, if the Irons can win the race for Doku, it would be an extraordinary statement of intent and one that certainly makes up for their errant ways in the early stages of the transfer window.

Alisson Lucky To Avoid Red Card In Liverpool Vs Bournemouth

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker nearly cost his team a goal just moments after Trent Alexander-Arnold's mistake saw the Reds go 1-0 down.

What's the latest on Liverpool and Bournemouth?

Playing in their first home game of the Premier League season, Jurgen Klopp's men hosted Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Having drawn 1-1 away at Chelsea in their opening match, Liverpool would have been hoping for a fast start agains the Cherries but quite the opposite happened.

Indeed, just moments into the match Jaidon Anthony had the ball in the back of the net after a mix-up between Alisson and Alexander-Arnold, only for the offiside flag to fortunately rule the goal out.

Not learning from that mistake, however, still just three minutes into the game, the English right-back was robbed of the ball on the edge of his own box – in what was a bit of a howler from the player when popping up in the a slight less familiar central position.

Dominic Solanke carried it forward and although he lost the ball, it fell nicely for Antoine Semenyo who slammed in home to make it 1-0.

It was a terrible start and it nearly got worse. Indeed, only five minutes later, goalkeeper Alisson received the ball inside his own box, took a terrible touch and was lucky not to be sent off as he lost the ball, lunged out and made a foul – resulting only in a yellow card.

Unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper was slammed online. Here are some damning reactions from fans as well as those in the media…

While BBC pundit Chris Sutton commented on the situation, noting: "It's been a very shaky start from Alisson."

Renowned journalist James Pearce didn't seem to understand what was going on either, as he took to Twitter to write: "What is going on here?? So sloppy from Alisson, who chops down Anthony on edge of the box after a dreadful touch. GK escapes with a yellow card."

Fortunately for the Reds, they'd turned the game back in their favour by half time after Luiz Diaz levelled the scores in the 28th minute and then Mohamed Salah scored the rebound after initially missing his penalty just eight minutes later.

And while Alexis Mac Allister picked up a controversial red card in the second half, a thrid goal from Diogo Jota put the game out of reach as home team came away with a 3-1 win.

What is Alisson Becker's salary?

The Brazilian keeper currently earns a reported £150k-p/w, making him one of the best paid players at the club.

And while he has shown that he is probably worth that sort of money in the past, his display in the early stages of this game against Bournemouth didn't really justify such a wage.

Still, it was only last season that teammate Andy Robertson hailed him as the best goalkeeper in the world, so Alisson certainly won't want to let his high standards slip this term.

In full, the left-back told the press (via Goal): "I think Ali's the best in the world for sure in what he does. We've all probably let him down this season in that he's faced too many shots, he's had to be making too many saves and I think he'll be a lot happier tonight."

Jalaj, Joseph star as Kerala snatch victory

Elsewhere, Jharkhand picked up a bonus point against Haryana through a ten-wicket win

Left-arm orthodox spinner Sijomon Joseph took his maiden five-wicket haul to help Kerala notch up their second win of the season, a 131-run win against Rajasthan in Thumba.Rajasthan were set 343 to win after Sachin Baby’s counterattack – 30 off 16 balls – lifted Kerala’s score from 217 for 2 to 250 for 5 in less than five overs on the morning of the final day. Overnight batsman Jalaj Saxena was unbeaten on 105 when Kerala declared; Sanju Samson couldn’t add to his overnight score of 72, falling in the first over of the day.Rajasthan’s innings was plagued by recurring collapses. They had lost both openers withing seven balls of the start of their innings, before a 63-run stand between Robin Bist (70) and Rajesh Bishnoi (35) brought stability to the innings. But Joseph broke that stand and followed it up with the wicket of Ashok Menaria to reduce Rajasthan to 64 for 4 with more than 70 overs still to play. Nearly 40 of those overs were absorbed by the fifth-wicket pair of Bist and Mahipal Lomror (53) but the former’s wicket brought yet another collapse – they fell from 160 for 4 to 190 for 9. Deepak Chahar and Aniket Choudhary then attempted a final resistance, batting out 62 balls and bringing Rajasthan close to pulling off a draw. But Joseph trapped him in front in the 84th over to seize the win for Kerala.Jalaj, who made scores of 79 and 105* in the game, took two wickets in the second innings to also finish with a ten-wicket match-haul.Jharkhand walked away with a bonus-point win against Haryana in Ranchi, after chasing their 80-run target without losing any wickets. The win was set up by Shahbaz Nadeem, whose six-wicket haul inflicted a collapse on Haryana, who had begun the day on 141 for 4. Overnight batsmen Rajat Paliwal (93) and Rohit Sharma (71) added 107 runs on the final day before Nadeem dismissed the former, seven short of a 14th hundred. Haryana lost the rest of their wickets for the addition of only 48 runs and were bowled out for 296, having conceded a first-innings lead of 217.Jharkhand promoted wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, who struck an unbeaten 46 off 45 balls and took them home in the company of Nazim Siddiqui (24*).

Tharanga, Fletcher set up Sylhet's tense win

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details Getty Images

Nurul Hasan’s unbeaten 11off 3 balls wrapped up Sylhet Sixers’ chase of 146 with one ball and four wickets to spare. With Sylhet needing 10 off the last over, Dwayne Bravo bowled Shuvagata Hom off the first ball. He could have dismissed Nurul off second ball had Rashid Khan at long-on not dropped a catch and parried the ball over the boundary. Nurul then drilled the third ball to cover to reduce the equation to three off three balls. The fourth ball was a slower ball from Bravo, and Liam Plunkett managed a single before Nurul edged the fifth past short third man, sparkling wild celebrations in the Sylhet camp.Sylhet had another strong start to their chase with Upul Tharanga and Andre Fletcher adding 73 for the opening stand. But Comilla Victorians captain Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan claimed combined figures of 8-0-40-2 to stall the hosts. Nurul, however, hung on in the end to give the hosts their second win in two days.Earlier, Marlon Samuel’s 60 off 47 balls hauled Comilla to 145 for 6 on a dry pitch where run-scoring wasn’t easy. Krishmar Santokie and Taijul Islam led the bowling for Sylhet by taking two wickets each.Taijul’s double-strike
Comilla made a fast start with Liton Das driving Santokie through the covers and taking Abul Hasan for two boundaries in four balls, including a lofted six over the bowler’s head. Comilla then lost three wickets in a space of 16 balls for the addition of just eight runs. Nasir Hossain bowled Imrul Kayes before Taijul Islam removed Liton and Jos Buttler off successive balls. Taijul’s double-strike slowed down Comilla and put pressure on the middle order.

Sabbir fined 50% for use of obscene language

Sylhet Sixers’ batsman Sabbir Rahman has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching Level 2 of the BCB code of conduct during his side’s BPL match against Comilla Victorians on Sunday. Three demerit points have also been added to his disciplinary record, and one more will equate to a one-match ban.
Sabbir admitted the offence of directing obscene language towards a match official at the end of the game. The incident is apparently connected to his leg-before decision, when the ball appeared to be going over the stumps when it hit his pad.

Santokie shows his worth
Marlon Samuels and Alok Kapali then led Comilla’s recovery but their 42-run stand was cut short by a Krishmar Santokie delivery that held up in the pitch slightly. Kapali went through with the shot but was caught at deep midwicket. The left-arm seamer then suckered Mohammad Nabi into playing a big shot, which was well caught by Shuvagoto Hom tearing to his left from deep midwicket. His 2 for 30 was instrumental in keeping Comilla to 145 for 6, despite Samuels’ fifty.Fletcher and Tharanga at it again
Having smashed fifties against Dhaka Dynamites on Saturday, Andre Fletcher and Upul Tharanga carried that form into their second game on Sunday. The West Indies opener struck two sixes and five fours in his 29-ball 36 while Tharanga provided him able support with quick singles and twos. Their calculated attack lasted 8.4 overs before Rashid Khan ran quickly at cover to complete a superb catch to remove Fletcher in the ninth over.Calm waters disturbed
Soon after removing Fletcher, Comilla strengthened their foothold when Nabi trapped Sabbir Rahman lbw for 3 in the 12th over. Replays, however, suggested that the ball would have gone down leg. When Tharanga was run out for 51, courtesy a fine throw from substitute Raqibul Hasan, Sylhet were 102 for 3.Rashid’s redemption
Rashid Khan, one of the hottest young bowlers in limited-overs cricket, conceded 12 runs in his first over. But he hit back, giving away just six runs in his next three overs, including the wicket of Sylhet captain Nasir Hossain off his last ball. Only three runs came off that over – the 17th of the innings – leaving the hosts needing 28 off the last three overs. The horrible follow-up
Dwayne Bravo was then expected to tighten the screws with his slower balls and wide yorkers. Instead, he began the 18th over with two wides, and dropped a return catch, reprieving Shuvagata Hom on 0. Two balls later, Hom skied one towards deep midwicket, but Imrul Kayes dived and spilled the chance, conceding three runs. Comilla will rue such errors in a tense game, which boiled down to the penultimate ball. What they said
“We were short by 10-15 runs. If Marlon and I didn’t get out in that time, we would have at least made 160.”
“We have now kept two good batting line-ups under 150, which shows that our bowling plans are working.”

Khulna hold nerve in tight game to move top of the table

Junaid Khan’s economic last spell helped Khulna Titans defend 158 in the face of a 100-run partnership between Ravi Bopara and Nahidul Islam

The Report by Mohammad Isam24-Nov-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Mahmudullah brings out the pull shot•Raton GomesKhulna Titans went to the top of the BPL’s points table with a tight nine-run win over Rangpur Riders. Khulna over-rode a 100-run fifth-wicket stand between Ravi Bopara and Nahidul Islam that couldn’t quite crack the whip in the last five overs of the chase.Fifteen runs were needed off the final over, bowled by Junaid Khan. Bopara squeezed out a single off the first ball before Nahidul was run out off the next, having made 58 off 43 balls. Bopara took three runs off the next two balls. Junaid allowed a single off the fifth ball, which was the fifth yorker. Bopara was caught off the last ball with Afif Hossain taking a fine catch at long-on. Bopara made 59 off 44 balls with four boundaries and a six.Put into bat earlier, Khulna reached 158 for 8 in 20 overs with Mahmudullah reaching his second successive fifty. He made 59 off 36 balls with six fours and two sixes. Rubel Hossain took three wickets while there were two for Lasith Malinga and one each for Mashrafe Mortaza and Thisara Perera.Khulna falter in early attackRilee Rossouw, Afif Hossain and Nazmul Hossain Shanto fell in the first 6.3 overs as they tried to slog everything in their half. Rossouw, who finished the first over with a straight six, was bowled when he missed the slog-sweep against Sohag Gazi two balls into the second over.Rubel got the wicket of Afif, who struck two early fours before being pinned back with a good bouncer that was followed by a yorker which he couldn’t keep out. Shanto fell to a Mashrafe slower ball in the seventh over, having tried plenty of scoops, reverse-scoops and sweeps in his run-a-ball 20.Mahmudullah settles downNicholas Pooran, playing his first match this season, added 43 runs with Mahmudullah for the fourth wicket to lead Khulna’s recovery. Pooran struck just one four in his 16 off 20 balls, but Mahmudullah found boundaries regularly during their partnership.Mahmudullah struck straight sixes off Gazi and Thisara on either side of the Pooran wicket, and went on to add 38 runs for the fifth wicket with Ariful Haque. He reached his fifty in the 16th over, and looked set to take Khulna to a big total.Tag-team effort brings back RangpurWhen Mahmudullah lofted Rubel in the next over, Brendan McCullum ran hard to his right at long-on, caught the ball and parried it to Nahidul who completed the catch. Rubel picked up his third wicket one ball later when he nailed Ariful leg-before for 16.He finished with figures of 3 for 35 from his four overs. More crucially, Perera got rid of Carlos Brathwaite in the penultimate over when he was starting to look dangerous. Lasith Malinga finished well too by giving away just seven runs in the last over as Rangpur conceded 42 runs in the last five overs.Gayle-McCullum influence lasts 2.5 oversMahmudullah handed the new ball to Afif who removed Brendan McCullum off his second ball, as he toe-ended a full ball to long-on. Gayle got two streaky fours off Abu Jayed in the next over before launching him over long-off for his first six. But Jayed got him next ball, caught-behind for 16.Mohammad Mithun fell run-out to a direct hit from Brathwaite soon after and then Afif bowled Fazle Mahmud in the eighth over to reduce Rangpur to 45 for 4.Nahidul gets his first 50Bopara and Nahidul – another first-timer in this season – then took stock of a dicey situation. They didn’t rely on hitting sixes or fours primarily, but banked on picking a lot of singles and twos, as they had very few batsmen coming after them. The first boundary of their partnership came after 15 deliveries, with Nahidul getting two consecutive fours off Jayed in the 11th over. With 58 required off the last five overs, Nahidul and Bopara creamed three fours off Brathwaite. Nahidul reached his maiden T20 fifty in the 17th over, having faced 34 balls.Bopara leaves it too lateAfter Junaid bowled a superb 18th over in which he conceded just six runs, Bopara launched Jofra Archer over wide long-on to bring down the pressure. But there were no more boundaries in the penultimate over which went for 14 runs. Junaid bowled the superb last over, to finish with 1 for 20 from his four overs.

Van de Ven Latest: Fabrizio Romano Shares Tottenham Twist

Tottenham Hotspur have re-scheduled defender Micky van de Ven's medical as reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano shares a transfer update.

Who will Spurs sign?

After weeks of negotiations, Spurs have finally got their hands on a star centre-back, with Van de Ven set for a move to north London.

The Dutchman looks set to join alongside goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, defender Ashley Phillips, midfielder James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon as Tottenham's fifth summer signing.

Ange Postecoglou previously admitted that his side were chasing a centre-back or two, coming after a campaign which saw Spurs leak a pretty terrible 63 league goals.

"That's definitely our intention, absolutely," said Postecoglou when asked about signing new defenders.

"We've been working on it for a while and we'll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.

"I don't think it's any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen. Some of it I identified early on. The goalkeeper was one and central defence is another.

"In terms of the other boys, we've got a big squad but my view is I wanted to bring them along and just work with them, get some clarity in my head and give clarity to them."

Alongside Van de Ven, it is claimed that Spurs could move for another star defender, with Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba coming as the top transfer target.

Going back to Van de Ven, reliable reporter Romano says there's been a "change" to the original plan regarding his medical.

Indeed, the 22-year-old was due to fly to London on Saturday to undergo his tests, but he will now fly in today and complete those examinations on Monday instead.

"Tottenham update," said Romano on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Micky van de Ven will fly to London on Sunday with small change to original plan. THFC Medical tests booked on Monday. Deal done and set to be announced early next week."

How good is Micky Van de Ven?

micky-van-de-ven-premier-league-liverpool-transfers

Van de Ven is an elite-level ball-playing defender, with no other Wolfsburg player averaging a higher passing accuracy per 90 than the Netherlands international last season (WhoScored).

He was an indispensable member of Niko Kovac's starting eleven also, having played more Bundesliga minutes than any other Wolfsburg outfielder last term (WhoScored).

The Bundesliga website, praising Van de Ven for his speed and physical attributes, have also called him a "nightmare" for defenders.

They wrote:

"Van de Ven can be a nightmare for attacking players with his immense strength, determination and precision tackling scuppering the most promising of forward moves.

"With incredible pace and passing ability among his many assets, the Netherlands U21 international – who captained his country at the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship – is on course to become a regular for the senior Oranje in the near future."

Meanwhile, Kovac has been effusive in his praise for the exciting centre-half, calling him "really good" whilst hailing his "extraordinary" form.

"Micky is a great boy [and] a really good footballer," said Kovac.

"What he's showing at the moment is extraordinary.”

As Postecoglou seeks to reinforce his backline, there is little question Van de Ven could prove to be a brilliant capture.

Get Stokes to Australia? Not so fast…

I see witnesses have come forward to defend Ben Stokes. That’s great. So he can play in the Ashes then?Well hold on a minute. Somerset and Avon Police are still investigating the incident and the ECB has suspended him indefinitely as it awaits developments. The guy’s a hero. If Stokes had saved me from a beating, I’d have been down the nick in no time. What took these guys so long?Cricket’s not their thing apparently and they had no idea who he was until a policeman knocked on the door. But according to the they regard Stokes as “a real gentleman”.That’s good. So now Stokes has an alibi, why not just get the first taxi to Heathrow? It’s not an alibi. The footage still shows someone who looks very much like him throwing punches. As far as that goes, nothing has changed. It was self-defence, we all know that.An argument of self-defence would certainly help his case. But a court might still be asked to decide whether the level of force used was reasonable based on the circumstances as Stokes genuinely believed them.So if he is going to be charged, get on with it and find him not guilty. The first Test in Brisbane is less than a month away…“Slow but sure moves the might of the Gods,” as Euripides had it.Eh?The wheels of justice turn slowly. How slowly?Government figures suggest it takes an average of 24 weeks between the offence and the case being concludedBut that’s the end of the Ashes. And some. The middle of March. And the same figures indicate Bristol Crown Court can take twice as longSurely sometimes famous people deserve special treatment? This affects the enjoyment of millions of people. All right, you’ve convinced me. Get him on the plane.
