Man City fans love Ilkay Gundogan news

A number of Manchester City fans are delighted after it was revealed that Ilkay Gundogan will not be missing from the Champions League final on Saturday night.

The Citizens are preparing for the biggest match in the club’s history in Porto. They have been in Portugal for most of the week as Pep Guardiola and his squad put together the final preparations for the match against fellow Premier League outfit Chelsea.

However, they were hit with a scare during training in the build-up. Gundogan, who has enjoyed a fantastic campaign as the team’s leading scorer with 17 goals, had to leave the field with an injury, and there were worries he would be unavailable for the big game (Manchester Evening News).

Fortunately, it has now been revealed by journalist Fred Caldiera that it was a minor issue and that the German will be ready to feature tonight.

The news was shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the update.

Spurs: Reporter makes Eriksen claim

Taking to Twitter, 90min journalist Sean Walsh has made a claim involving Tottenham Hotspur and a possible move for Brentford attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The lowdown: A joint reunion…

Having made a superb return following a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Eriksen could already be eyeing the next step as the summer transfer window approaches.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), the 30-year-old has already been linked with a sensational move back to N17 to rejoin Spurs and in turn, reunite with Antonio Conte who he starred under at Inter Milan.

Sharing news on social media, Walsh has suggested that the move could now be edging closer than ever…

The latest: Walsh drops update

As per his information, the Brentford and Tottenham reporter claims that the north London club are now ‘confident’ of signing Eriksen this summer.

Walsh explained in a Tweet that the move could be dependent on whether Conte remains at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and whether the Lilywhites reach the UEFA Champions League.

The verdict: Get it done

This is a no-brainer for Spurs as transfer chief Fabio Paratici attempts to strengthen the squad in the summer transfer window.

The 111-cap Denmark international has been nothing short of a revelation since joining Brentford and has directly contributed to three goals in seven Premier League outings for a side that was floundering in February.

Overall, the man hailed as a ‘very special player’ by Spurs insider John Wenham, has earned an outstanding 7.49 average rating since returning to the English top-flight, creating three big chances, making 2.1 key passes per game and taking 1.9 shots a match (Sofascore).

These statistics bear out the star’s continued class and given the perceived stylistic similarities with Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne (Fbref), Tottenham should be desperate to land Eriksen.

Newcastle claim on Arsenal ace Willock

A source from Newcastle United has dropped a big transfer claim on the future of Joe Willock at the St. James’ Park faithful.

That’s according to Football Insider, who say the Arsenal man has ‘expressed an interest’ in moving back to the North East in the 2021/22 term on a permanent deal.

He has reportedly told his teammates that he wants to stay at the Tyneside club next season after an ‘enjoyable’ spell out on loan, as he believes that he will get more game time, an opportunity which ‘does not exist’ with Mikel Arteta’s team.

However, Willock believes that his future may depend on whether the Gunners sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent basis after his loan spell from Real Madrid ends, with added ‘doubt’ over whether the Magpies have the funds to sign him.

Newcastle should sign Willock

The Toon should try and do all that they can in order to sign Willock on a permanent transfer, given that he has already shown just how much of an impact that he can make.

The central midfield player has scored important ‘magnificent’ in the win against the latter.

Goals from midfield can be extremely valuable especially to a club with only one out and out goalscorer in Callum Wilson, so a permanent move for Willock could play a massive role in hopefully kicking the Toon on from relegation survivors to top ten contenders in the coming years.

Celtic: Hoops eye Lee Buchanan swoop

Celtic are reportedly interested in a move for Derby County defender Lee Buchanan as their recruitment drive intensifies, according to the Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Ange Postecoglou eyes quality additions

Facing a large-scale rebuild at Parkhead this season after a disappointing 2020/21 campaign in Glasgow’s east end, new Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will be looking to add quality where necessary to breed trophy-winning success.

Wasting no time in the transfer market, he has brought in five new players in key areas in need of strengthening as Kyogo Furuhashi, Carl Starfelt, Osaze Urhoghide, Liel Ababa and Liam Shaw have all joined over the summer [Transfermarkt].

The Celts now look set to pursue another target, according to latest developments.

The Latest: Celtic eye young sensation Buchanan

Eyeing reinforcements at left-back, Celtic are said to be keen on a move for 20-year-old Buchanan, as per the Daily Record.

His club Derby County are currently under a transfer embargo due to financial irregularities, potentially opening the door to a move away from Pride Park.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly the first club to test the waters with a bid for the 1.75m (5 foot 9) ace, although their bid of around £1.2m for his services has been rejected.

The Verdict: Buchanan would be an astute signing

Youthful, potentially available for a knockdown fee and already a regular first team operator, Buchanan would seem an astute potential signing by the Parkhead hierarchy.

In 2020/21, the Mansfield-born defender made 37 appearances for the Rams, registering three assists [Transfermarkt]. He also showed his bravery within the backline, winning a commendable 2.9 aerial duels per game across the season for Derby [WhoScored].

Once labelled a ‘top player’ by his manager, none other than Premier League legend Wayne Rooney, the England under-21 international has a bright future in the game which Celtic should capitalise upon by completing a deal for his signature.

Sheff Wed fans hail Dele-Bashiru display

A number of Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been hailing Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s performance in the friendly win over Port Vale.

The Owls are continuing to prepare for life in League One, with Darren Moore trying to mastermind a swift return to the Championship.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Lewis Wing both joined Wednesday on loan on Tuesday and the pair played a part in the friendly meeting with Port Vale.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

It was Moore’s side who prevailed 2-1 on the night, in what proved to be a good run out, as the League One opener away to Charlton Athletic a week on Saturday edges closer all the time.

Someone who caught the eye in the match was Dele-Bashiru, who only managed two starts in the Championship in the whole of last season.

The 20-year-old scored the winning goal with 79 minutes on the clock and impressed supporters in his all-round performance.

Newcastle transfer update on Joseph

Mark Douglas has dropped an enticing transfer update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Kyle Joseph.

The Lowdown: Newcastle linked to Joseph

The St. James’ Park faithful have been reported to be lining up a move for Joseph in the summer transfer window, with his current deal at Wigan Athletic set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 term.

Celtic have also been linked to the striker, but Douglas has given an update that could be vital in the race to sign him.

The Latest: Newcastle front runners

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, the journalist has shared that the North East club are among the front runners to sign Joseph as he is being chased by a number of other clubs in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old would be given a pathway into the first team on Tyneside, though he would cost a compensation fee despite him being out of contract in the summer, which could extend to above £500,000.

The Verdict: Newcastle should sign Joseph

Joseph is a player for the future, having scored five goals and made a further assist in 17 games in total in the EFL League One as a teenager so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Latics journalist Paul Kendrick described him as a ‘shining light’ after a man-of-the-match performance back in November, and he is certainly someone to keep an eye on for the Toon Army when the window opens.

Everton in the race to sign Merih Demiral

Everton don’t have a first-team manager in place but that shouldn’t stop Marcel Brands and co from neglecting the transfer market.

We are now a few weeks into the window but any sign of activity from Goodison Park is being brought to a halt while they hunt for a new head coach.

What’s the word?

One player the new Everton manager could look to sign this summer is Juventus centre-half Merih Demiral.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Merseyside outfit and Tottenham are set to battle it out for the Turk’s signature this summer.

They are the only clubs interested in signing the defender per the report, who state that Juve are keen to sell the 23-year-old.

Demiral was valued at €40m (£34.5m) a few months ago so it could be a pricey deal for any suitor to complete.

Must swoop

If you’ve been watching the ongoing European Championships, then it’s likely you’d be against this signing.

After all, supposed dark horses Turkey were one of the worst teams at the tournament.

They failed to qualify from a group involving Italy, Wales and Switzerland as they scored just one goal and conceded eight.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-manager-transfer-nuno-conte-wood-marcelo” title= “Read the latest Everton manager and transfer news!”]

Demiral was part of that shoddy backline but his qualities weren’t fairly reflected during the opening fortnight of competition.

In short, the central defender is an “absolute beast” in the words of talent scout Jacek Kulig.

He was an animal for Juventus last term, using immense strength and brute force to bully defenders.

The Turkey international won 2.2 aerial duels per game in the Champions League and prevailed in 3.6 aerial battles during his country’s Nations League campaign. For context, that second tally was only bettered by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in 2020/21.

A battling performer, he is willing to fight your cause until the bitter end. Speaking exclusively to Football Fancast, Serie A expert Conor Clancy said: “He can pass the ball well and he’s a little bit old school as well so he’s more than happy to go into the trenches and he will go to war with a striker if he needs to, and I think he improves any team he goes into.”

Everton are evidently in the mood to sign more defenders this term and they could combine the ruthless power of Demiral with the sensational physical traits that Denzel Dumfries possesses.

Described as a “freight train” by the BBC commentary team for his rampant runs down the right-hand side for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, he’s another player to be linked with the Toffees.

Everton were thought to be facing competition from Bayern Munich but their interest has reportedly died down.

Both players have tremendous strength and could be quite the duo in defence for Everton next season.

They are capable of terrifying forwards with their mighty presence and they are both individuals you’d want in the trenches beside you.

As Everton’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on the final day of the campaign tells us, they need players who aren’t going to roll over easily.

Marcel Brands would seal two magnificent deals by luring them to Merseyside over the coming months.

Rangers vs Hibernian news

Some Glasgow Rangers fans have been left buzzing as some news emerged on their game at home to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

As per the official website of the Ibrox faithful, no Light Blues supporter will be refused entry into the ground, despite it being used as a ‘test event’ by the Scottish government.

This comes after Gers were told that they must show a vaccine certificate if they wish to go into the stadium, and must be fully vaccinated and able to show proof of such, unless they are exempt.

While the restrictions are not ideal for some of the fans, the latest information about not being refused entry has at least lightened the mood of those planning to go to the match tomorrow afternoon.

Newcastle may bid for Martial in January

Anthony Martial is one of four Manchester United players that Newcastle United could look to sign, according to a report from The Daily Mirror.

The lowdown

The 25-year-old has struggled for form of late, with just five Premier League goals since the start of the 2020/21 season.

His contract at Old Trafford runs until June 2024, but the Red Devils have the option to extend it for a further year. His estimated transfer value has fallen to £31.5m, its lowest point since the summer of 2017 (via Transfermarkt).

The latest

As per The Daily Mirror, Newcastle are tipped to ‘flex their financial muscles’ when the mid-season transfer window rolls around as they look to ward off any relegation concerns.

Manchester United owners, the Glazer family, could come under ‘pressure’ from the Tyneside club amid interest in Martial, Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard. Of that group, the former is said to be the likeliest to leave Old Trafford in the near future.

Red Devils co-owner Joel Glazer is apparently a keen admirer of the Frenchman and has blocked his exit in the past, but his resolve could be tested at the turn of the year when Newcastle dip into their ‘war chest’.

The verdict

Would Martial be the smartest signing of the four? It’s hard to say when we don’t know who’ll be in charge at Newcastle and what system they might want to play.

We do know that he’s a quality player on top form, as he demonstrated in 2019/20 when he scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions, but his alarming drop-off since then makes the move a risk. Meanwhile, Bailly could improve Newcastle’s defence but his injury record is a real concern.

Van de Beek and Lingard showed their class at Ajax and West Ham respectively but won’t get the opportunity do so on a consistent basis at Old Trafford, so they could be clever acquisitions for the Magpies.

CPFC: Fans buzz over Michael Olise signing

Crystal Palace announced the signing of Reading midfielder Michael Olise on Thursday, and a number of Eagles supporters were quick to share their delight at the transfer confirmation on social media.

The 19-year-old was wanted by Palace back in January and has now become Patrick Vieira’s first signing as the Eagles’ manager.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Olise has signed a five-year deal at Selhurst Park and will wear the number seven shirt.

He has already made 73 senior appearances after making his senior debut as a 17-year-old. Olise starred for the Royals last season, scoring seven goals and registering 12 assists in 46 games.

The youngster has been on the books of Chelsea and Manchester City previously but now looks set to get his chance in the top flight with Palace.

Palace fans react

The Eagles confirmed the move on their official Twitter page on Thursday afternoon. Here is what these fans had to say in reply, with one labelling the deal as ‘brilliant’ and another dreaming of Europe now that the teenage talent is on board.
