Rangers vs Hibernian news

Some Glasgow Rangers fans have been left buzzing as some news emerged on their game at home to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

As per the official website of the Ibrox faithful, no Light Blues supporter will be refused entry into the ground, despite it being used as a ‘test event’ by the Scottish government.

This comes after Gers were told that they must show a vaccine certificate if they wish to go into the stadium, and must be fully vaccinated and able to show proof of such, unless they are exempt.

While the restrictions are not ideal for some of the fans, the latest information about not being refused entry has at least lightened the mood of those planning to go to the match tomorrow afternoon.

Tottenham ‘ready’ to meet Kessie demands

As per Milan News, it appears a major Tottenham Hotspur transfer update has emerged in the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing Kessie…

Tottenham have been linked with a swoop for the potential 2022 free agent since the end last summer’s transfer window with managing director Fabio Paratici targeting a move.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Get Italian Football News) even claimed that Spurs talks with Kessie and his entourage were at a ‘very advanced’ stage at one point.

Meanwhile, Sportitalia TV reporter Rudy Galetti claimed that Tottenham even had a close agreement, so while these claims have failed to come to fruition so far, there is certainly plenty of noise about this one ahead of the 2022 January transfer window.

The Latest: Tottenham ‘ready’ to meet Kessie demands…

In an update, Milan Live now say that both Tottenham and Paris-Saint Germain are both ‘ready’ to ‘welcome’ and ‘satisfy’ Kessie’s wage demands – said to be around €10 million-per-season (£8.5m).

It also believed that Kessie’s exit from the San Siro is ‘increasingly likely’ with Milan potentially having to search for replacements already.

The Verdict: Get it done…

The Ivory Coast star would undoubtedly bolster Conte’s options in midfield and provide a real degree of quality, as evident by his impressive 13 goals and four assists in 36 Serie A starts last season.

Despite being a natural defensive midfielder, Kessie has flourished in a more advanced role under Stefano Pioli with Milan’s boss even calling him ‘sumptuous’.

Valued at around £49.5 million by Transfermarkt, Spurs and Paratici could bypass that or any fee by signing him on a pre-contract in January – a move which is surely a no-brainer.

Leeds: Noel Whelan reacts to Jesse Marsch claim

Leeds United employee Noel Whelan has hailed Jesse Marsch’s man-management skills following his impressive start to life at Elland Road.

The Lowdown: Marsch talks

Marsch has helped the Whites pull eight points clear of safety over recent weeks after picking up three wins and a draw from the last four games.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The American gave an in-depth interview to talkSPORT from Thorp Arch last week, revealing that his first message to the players was to remain ‘calm’ and that he looked to implement his playing philosophy and mentality on a day-to-day basis.

That has impressed Whelan, who has been full of praise for the 48-year-old when talking to Football Insider.

The Latest: Whelan reacts

Former Leeds striker Whelan, who is now an employee of the club, labelled the work Marsch has done as ‘quite incredible’ and described his approachability as ‘massive’.

“He has got up to speed pretty quickly from where he was and where the players were.

“He’s gone in and changed that around. The players have bought into it. He has probably asked the players, one-on-one, what it is they need as well.

“I think it’s really important that you find out from the players first hand so you’ve got something to go off. He’s one of these men that is open to suggestions and he’s open to the players talking to him.

“I think that’s really important because that is a massive part of the game now, man-managing. Not just a squad, but every individual player as well.

“Their needs, what they need from a training session and the rest they need as well. Rest and recuperation is just as important as the intensity that you’re putting out there on the training ground.

“He’s come in and done a really, really educated job with the players. To do it in such a short space of time is quite incredible. There’s no doubt he has got all the credentials you need to be very successful at Leeds.”

The Verdict: Good signs

Taking over from club legend Marcelo Bielsa with Leeds seriously flirting with relegation was always going to be a huge task for Marsch, however, he has rose to the challenge despite a tough first week.

His message about staying calm appears to have done the trick around the training ground, even if fans have remained anything but calm with dramatic stoppage-time winners against Norwich City and Wolves.

Those four points, gained thanks to strikes from Joe Gelhardt and Luke Ayling, could prove to be the difference come the end of the season, where hopefully, Marsch will be preparing for a first full year in charge as a Premier League manager.

Newcastle move for Man City ace Palmer

A report has now revealed that Newcastle United attempted to sign Cole Palmer on loan ahead of the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Big future

Coming through the ranks at Manchester City, there is no doubt that Palmer has a big future ahead of him.

He has scored goals for fun at youth level, and has since earned call-ups to the senior team, despite being just 19 years of age.

He is a player that Pep Guardiola is especially fond of, having dubbed him ‘exceptional’ and a ‘talent’ with ‘special quality’ when he gets in front of the net (talkSPORT).

However, with the array of talent that City have at their disposal, a loan move away could suit Palmer as he aims to develop quicker by playing more regular football.

The Latest: Attempt rejected

The Athletic have now revealed that the Sky Blues have ‘knocked back’ an attempt from the St. James’ Park faithful to take Palmer on loan for the rest of the season.

Representatives of the North East club ‘suggested’ the idea of a loan deal, but were told that the striker is in Guardiola’s plans for the next few months.

The Verdict: Shame

It is certainly a shame that the Tyneside outfit now look set to miss out on bringing Palmer in, given the circumstances that they currently find themselves in.

A loan move would have suited them, as if the worst case scenario happened and they were to find themselves relegated from the Premier League down to the Championship at the end of the term, then Palmer could have just been sent back to the Etihad Stadium.

Callum Wilson is by far their top scorer this campaign with six goals, and has not really been helped by his fellow strikers.

Nonetheless, Palmer has shown that he knows where the back of the net is, and could have aided Wilson in that sense to get as many goals as needed to stay up.

Predicted Rangers XI vs Stirling Albion

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers side will be looking to return to winning ways as they head into Scottish Cup action on Friday night.

They were held to a 1-1 draw by Aberdeen in the Premiership earlier this week and now come up against League Two outfit Stirling Albion.

This match could be an opportunity for a number of fringe players to get welcome minutes and for others to find their confidence following the frustrating draw with the Dons.

How many changes will Van Bronckhorst make from Tuesday night? Here is our predicted XI…

We are predicting that he will make seven alterations to the side from the draw at Pittodrie, with Jon McLaughlin, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, Cedric Itten, Fashion Sakala, Alex Lowry and John Lundstram all coming in.

Starting off between the sticks, McLaughlin could get the nod to enjoy some minutes after a lengthy spell out of the team. He has not played a competitive game for Rangers since 9 December against Lyon, and this is the perfect chance to bring him back in for a match.

Van Bronckhorst could also swap out his two first-choice centre-backs, Connor Goldson and Calvin Bassey, to start Balogun and Simpson for the same reason. The aforementioned duo have started every game under the Dutchman and could be rested for this cup clash.

The Scotsman have reported that Lowry will be given his first-team bow in this game and we are predicting that it will come from the start. The 18-year-old could be handed the opportunity to show what he can do over the course of 90 minutes at senior level, which could be an audition for his chance to play in the Premiership between now and the end of the season.

Lundstram could then come in alongside him in place of Glen Kamara, with James Sands keeping his spot in the XI. The American, who joined from New York City FC this month, could need additional minutes to build relationships with his new team-mates, which is why he could start tonight.

In the frontline, Sakala and Itten could both be played from the start in order to help them find some form in front of goal. They both came off the bench in the draw at Aberdeen, and Van Bronckhorst could axe Alfredo Morelos and Scott Wright from the team.

The Colombian endured a difficult night against the Dons and could be axed from the XI as a result. The £33k-per-week gem was not at his best, so handing him a rest here could be a shrewd call by the head coach.

Tottenham fans react to Pochettino vetoing deal for Tielemans

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino vetoed a move for AS Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, per Belgian media outlet Het Belang van Limburg, via Sport Witness.

According to The Telegraph’s Midlands football reporter John Percy on Twitter, the midfielder is now reportedly poised to move to Leicester City in a loan deal that will see Adrien Silva go the other way, also on loan.

However, the aforementioned report, via Sport Witness, claims that Spurs’ hierarchy were keen on a move for Tielemans, with a purchase option included in any loan deal.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Pochettino, however, is said to have nixed the potential deal, as he was unconvinced by the qualities offered by the Belgian.

Tielemans has won 19 caps for his country, per Transfermarkt, and has been a key member of Monaco’s squad this season, starting a total of 30 games in all competitions and chipping in with five goals.

And it’s fair to say that the news that Pochettino was not keen on the midfielder has not gone down too well on Twitter.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Maty Cash confirmation

Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash has ‘officially’ received his Polish passport and is expected to be called up by the national team for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

Reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano has kept on top of Cash’s process to switch nationalities in recent months, and a number of Villa fans have been reacting to his Twitter post.

The 24-year-old, who has been a regular in Dean Smith’s side this season, stayed in London over the weekend following the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on Friday.

He visited the Polish embassy to begin the process of switching nationalities, which has now been completed.

It has been a long time coming for Cash, who was looking into representing Poland back in 2019.

Poland take on Andorra and Hungary next month in crucial qualifiers, and it appears as if Paulo Sousa will name the Villa full-back in his squad.

Villa fans react

Romano shared the news regarding Cash to his 5.6m Twitter followers. This is what some Villa fans had to say in reply…

Robinson reacts to Villa’s Gomez interest

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been reacting to Aston Villa’s reported interest in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

The Lowdown: Gomez links

Steven Gerrard is preparing his Villa side for a return to his former employers at Anfield this weekend, and it seems as if he could look for help from the Reds when the January transfer window opens.

The Mirror have linked Villa with a winter loan move for Gomez, with the 24-year-old falling down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

Gomez, who is known for his searing pace, has started just three games in all competitions this season, and Gerrard is hoping to convince Klopp and the £85,000-a-week defender of a move to the Midlands.

The Latest: Robinson reacts

Robinson, who regularly features as a pundit on Sky Sports, was talking to Football Insider about Gomez and the links to Villa. He labelled it as an ‘optimistic’ move but described it as ‘massive’ if they could get it over the line, saying:

“That is an optimistic one from Aston Villa.

“Given the amount of fixtures Liverpool have coming up, I think it would be a surprise if they let Gomez go.

“It would be a massive coup for Villa if they could get him.

“The only way I can see that deal going through is if the player pushes for a move. Gomez might drive a move himself given that the World Cup is coming up next year.

“Klopp is not going to want to lose one of his centre-halves after what happened last year. They were in crisis. A club with the resources of Liverpool does not have to shift on players to lessen the wage bill.

“I can only see Gomez joining Villa if he pushes for a move to get in that England squad.”

The Verdict: Needed?

Gerrard is thought to be after a centre-back and a defensive midfielder in the New Year, so the links to Gomez would appear to make sense.

However, Villa already have four senior central defenders on the books after bringing in Axel Tuanzebe on loan over the summer, so they seem fairly well-stocked in that department as things stand.

Gerrard also wants to offload two wingers in January, so an attacking addition could be more of a priority, while a defensive midfielder could also be of more importance with Marvelous Nakamba set to play in the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year.

Celtic: Will Giakoumakis play v Rangers?

Celtic may have romped to a 7-0 defeat last weekend but it wasn’t a victory without negatives for Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops.

That’s because both David Turnbull and Giorgos Giakoumakis came away from the clash with injuries.

What’s the word?

With Celtic six points ahead of Rangers in the race for the Premiership title, ordinarily, this wouldn’t be a big blow.

However, the two sides now meet again in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on Sunday, meaning that missing either of them could prove significant.

Fortunately, there is slim hope over Giakoumakis being fit enough to play with Postecoglou teasing that the problem didn’t look too bad.

He said: “Nothing concrete yet. Again, we’re still waiting for the final scans on it.

“Hopefully, it’s not too bad. He feels like it’s not too bad, but until we get the information we won’t know.”

A boost for the Hoops?

Although the severity of the problem is uncertain, it’s a relief to Celtic supporters and indeed the manager that he hasn’t been ruled out entirely.

After all, the Greek has been superb since establishing himself as a key cog in the wheel of their side during 2022.

Giakoumakis already has two hat-tricks this calendar year, bagging 13 goals in all competitions.

It has been an injury-hit spell for the forward since moving to Glasgow last summer but he has proven his fitness of late and terrorised Premiership defences in the process.

With Kyogo Furuhashi only just returning from his own period on the sidelines, it will be vital to have a fit and firing Giakoumakis in the side.

Of course, the comeback of Kyogo would soften the blow of losing another forward but it’s hardly ideal for the manager if he can’t call upon someone who has been so impressive of late.

Celtic have already won one domestic honour this term and a win on Sunday would boost their chances of winning the treble. Therefore, it’s crucial that their powerful Greek can play a part.

Man Utd handed injury blow to Cavani

Manchester United have had a difficult season so far and now face a challenge to qualify for the Champions League next season, but they may have just had another setback to their season as Fabrizio Romano delivers some bad news from the World Cup qualifiers.

What’s the word?

The popular transfer insider revealed that Man United striker Edinson Cavani has picked up an injury during international duty for Uruguay.

Romano tweeted: “Bad news for Manchester United as Edinson Cavani leaves the pitch with an injury during Uruguay game.”

Worrying for United

Despite lacking in game time for Manchester United this season due to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ralf Rangnick will surely be worried that the attacker won’t be able to provide depth as an option for the team in the front line ahead of their desperate chase for a top four spot this season.

The 35-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, but has also been on the receiving end of numerous injury issues this term which has led to reduced game time, but there is no doubt that when he has been available for selection that he has been a reliable attacking threat in the team.

Cavani has scored 19 goals and delivered seven assists for his Man United team-mates in 56 appearances over the last two campaigns, with a goal involvement every 113 minutes. The majority of his contributions at the club led them to a second place finish last season under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, scoring ten Premier League goals.

With that being said, in the moments where Rangnick’s side may be in need of a late goal, having Cavani as an option off the bench to come on and deliver would have been advantageous to the Man United boss over the remaining Premier League fixtures.

They cannot afford to drop points in their pursuit of top four with Arsenal and Spurs bringing tight competition to the Red Devils.

According to Manchester Evening News, the extent of the injury is currently unknown, however it seems unlikely Cavani will feature against Leicester at Old Trafford this weekend.
