THE BIGGER PICTURE
Blitzer has owned RSL since 2022, when he bought the franchise from Dell Loy Hansen for around $400 million. He brought the NWSL to Utah, setting up the Royals in 2024. He will cede majority control of both as part of the deal.
WHAT DON GARBER SAID
MLS Commissioner Don Garber expressed his happiness with the transaction in a release: "The future of Real Salt Lake is in great hands with the Miller organization and David Blitzer. The Millers have a long-standing commitment to community, youth sports, and sound business operations, and we have a proven history with David, one of the most accomplished sports owners in the world. WHAT NEXT FOR RSL AND UTAH ROYALS?
The sale is expected to go through immediately. Both sides are in the midst of their seasons. The Royals continue their campaign with a fixture against Chicago Friday. Meanwhile, RSL host Toronto Saturday evening.
Tottenham Hotspur are struggling for any kind of good form in recent weeks. Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently languishing in 15th in the Premier League table, and are remarkably just eight points clear of the relegation zone. Whilst that might seem a sizeable gap, their current form does not seem like it will turn around any time soon.
Spurs have lost four of their last five in the top flight, drawing the other game. They have now lost 12 times in the Premier League this term, and although the injury crisis is affecting their form, it is not good enough from the Lilywhites.
Ange Postecoglou and Archie Gray look dejected
With that in mind, it is perhaps no surprise that the North Londoners are exploring some late moves in the transfer market, including one player who could provide attacking reinforcement.
Spurs target new attacker
The player in question here is Ajax and Netherlands international striker Brian Brobbey. The Dutchman has shown flashes of brilliance this term but despite inconsistency, is a target for other clubs.
According to a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites have got in touch with Ajax to discuss a potential move for Brobbey. They have made an ‘enquiry to be informed’ about his situation should the possibility of a transfer arrive.
However, they are not the only London-based Premier League side interested in a deal for the Dutchman. West Ham United ‘are already in direct talks with Ajax’ about a potential loan move with an obligation to buy the player. Spurs are also considering a loan move.
Why Brobbey would be a good signing
It has been a slightly hit-and-miss season for 22-year-old striker Brobbey. He has struggled to find his best form in front of goal, having scored just three times, but does have seven assists across all competitions in 29 games.
Yet, the Netherlands international has shown, at times, just how clinical he can be. His goal against PEC Zwolle is a fine example of this, showing great instinct in the six-yard box to get on the end of a deflected cross and fire Ajax into the lead, of a game they went on to win 2-0.
Despite his poor form this term, Brobbey was on fire in the 2023/24 campaign. He scored 22 goals and grabbed 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, including 18 goals and ten assists in the Eredivisie.
Last season in the Eredivisie, Brobbey’s underlying numbers were nothing short of outstanding. According to Sofascore, he had a 21% conversion rate, created ten big chances and won an average of 5.1 duels per game.

If Spurs manage to complete a deal to sign Brobbey, he could form an exciting partnership with Swedish attacker Dejan Kulusevski. Earlier in 2024/25, former Lilywhites midfielder turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp claimed Kulusevski “has been Spurs’ best player this season”.
Indeed, the 24-year-old has been on fire across all competitions, with nine goals and eight assists in 34 games in all competitions.
Perhaps the best contribution from the Spurs number 21 this term came in the Carabao Cup Fourth Round against Manchester City, where he assisted both goals in a 2-1 win.
If the Lilywhites can get Brobbey back to his form from last season, Kulusevski could be in for a field day. As per FBref, he averages 2.74 key passes per game and has registered more assists than any other Spurs player, with eight.
That seems like it could be a match made in heaven. Not only is Brobbey a brilliant all-round striker at his best, but is a “prolific” player as football talent scout Jacek Kulig described him. He could be the ideal person to get on the end of Kulusevski’s chances.
On a loan deal, this seems like a safe move for the Lilywhites to do, as Brobbey could add goals to their squad and get the best out of their chief creator.

Aluko in legal battle with Barton

WHAT HAPPENED?
Former Newcastle United player Barton was charged with alleged malicious communications towards ex-Chelsea forward Aluko last year, who has has been in a legal battle with the 42-year-old since then. As a result, Aluko says the amount of work she has been hired for over the past 18 months is the "least TV" she's ever done.

WHAT ALUKO SAID
She told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour: "This happens in lots of industries – when women stand up for themselves, their career takes a hit. I've been doing broadcasting for 11 years. I'm not new to it. And in the last 18 months I've done the least TV I've ever done. That's just a fact. That's not a feeling, that's an opinion. That's a fact. So I think people can draw their own conclusions from that. There is a double standard where there is still a limited amount of opportunities for women, female broadcasters, both in the men's and the women's game. We're still competing for two or three seats maximum, which includes the presenters. What the Joey Bartons, and some male football fans, want is for women to get off the TV."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Aluko claimed she faced threats of violence and abuse on social media off the back of Barton's tweets – something a judge ruled was defamatory. The ex-Juventus attacker has also accused Arsenal legend Ian Wright of blocking opportunities for female pundits in women's football.
She said on Women's Hour: "I’ve worked with Ian a long time and, you know, I think he’s a brilliant broadcaster, but I think he’s aware of just how much he’s doing in the women’s game. I think he should be aware of that. The fact of the matter is, there is a limited amount of spaces available. If we had a situation where there was an equal opportunity in the men’s game for broadcasters and coaches that there is in the women’s game, it’s a free for all. But that’s not the case. I can’t dominate the men’s game in the way that, you know, you used Ian as an example."

Attempting to make a second late move in the January transfer window, Everton are now reportedly battling to sign a young Championship starlet ahead of Monday’s deadline.
Everton transfer news
Keeping their cards close to their chests, the Toffees swooped in seemingly out of nowhere to get their January business underway and secure a deal to loan Flamengo’s Carlos Alcaraz for the rest of the season. The former Southampton man returns to English football with unfinished business and could yet play a vital role in Everton’s Premier League survival.
The first signing of the Friedkin era and the first of David Moyes’ second stint in charge, Alcaraz could prove to be quite the coup with his move becoming permanent if he reaches certain goals in the remainder of the season.
However, those at Goodison Park may not be done there, with a matter of days remaining until the January window slams shut – leaving enough time for Friedkin to make their second move.
According to The Boot Room, Everton are now battling to sign Tom Watson from Sunderland after Brighton & Hove Albion saw a reported £2m offer turned down by the Black Cats.

Whether the Toffees offer more than that £2m fee remains to be seen, but Watson is certainly a wanted man amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, on top of the aforementioned clubs.
Still just 18 years old, the winger is one for the future and one who could yet spark Everton’s attack into life for years to come. As the deadline approaches and Sunderland battle to keep hold of the teenager, Everton could yet come swooping in.
"Powerful" Watson can replace Harrison
Everton’s pursuit of an exciting, young winger should come as no surprise amid Jack Harrison’s continued struggles. Despite never truly setting the world alight during his loan spell last season, the Toffees welcomed the winger back for a second loan spell, only to be left disappointed once again. Now, Friedkin and Moyes can welcome a more permanent solution in Watson.
The Sunderland ace is already impressing in senior football and has already earned the praise of manager Regis Le Bris, who told reporters (as relayed by BBC Sport) in December: “It was an interesting game for him. When you have a winger with the ability to run inside and outside and cross, it’s a gift for a coach and a team.
“He works well. The system is well-designed for him. We can use him very quickly and play to his main strengths. He’s powerful, he can dribble, he can move inside and outside and he scored. He’s very strong, a very good winger in this league.”
With two goals in 10 Championship appearances, Watson’s rise may just be getting underway as Premier League sides battle to secure his signature before the end of the January transfer window.

WHAT EFL PUNDIT SAID
Former EFL star turned pundit David Prutton has told of Mullin’s situation: "As we saw when he first joined the club, dropping out of the EFL, he took a real chance and a gamble. Yes, you would say it was a well-paid gamble, but he's delivered the goals that have given the foundations of a side that has gotten itself into the Championship, which is a glorious thing to see.
"There would be an element of sentiment there, I don't think he would be used sentimentally. I think he's a player that is proven to be a very decent part of this Wrexham side. However, the Championship, as we know, is brutal. Wrexham, potentially, given their financial foundations, may want to think that – and this is casting no shade on Paul Mullin – they maybe want to look at someone more established from a Championship point of view, or someone dropping down from the Premier League.
"Undoubtedly, the story that's been created around them will make them a very, very attractive proposition for many players."

Bayern delivered a professional and polished performance at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, brushing aside Borussia Mönchengladbach in what was essentially a formality in terms of league standings. Already crowned Bundesliga champions, the Bavarians showed no signs of complacency as Vincent Kompany’s team hit the ground running from the opening whistle.
One of the brightest sparks of the afternoon was Michael Olise, who dominated the right flank with his exceptional footwork, pace, and vision. Bayern’s dominance finally translated into a breakthrough after the half-hour mark when Olise once again cut inside with purpose. Weaving past markers, he unleashed an effort that took the slightest deflection off Harry Kane before finding the bottom corner of the net.
The goal, though tinged with fortune, was credited to the England captain, marking yet another milestone in his illustrious career. It was Kane’s 25th league goal of the Bundesliga campaign, and remarkably, the sixth time in his career that he has reached such a tally in domestic league football.
The fairy-tale ending to Bayern’s home campaign was sealed in stoppage time when Olise finally got his reward for a dazzling display. Leroy Sane spotted the winger’s darting run and threaded a precise ball through the heart of Monchengladbach’s defence. Olise coolly slotted home past the goalkeeper to register Bayern’s second of the match and round off a memorable individual and team performance.

The match served as a symbolic moment for Bayern fans as Müller played his final home fixture in the famous red shirt. With the result effectively sealed in the second half, Kompany made the sentimental decision to substitute the veteran forward. What followed was a deeply emotional moment inside the Allianz Arena. A standing ovation swept through the crowd as the name “Thomas Müller” rang out from every corner of the stadium. Players lined up to form a guard of honour, saluting the 35-year-old who has been synonymous with the club for over a decade.

THE MVP
Olise had a sensational outing on Saturday afternoon as he tormented Monchengladbach’s defence for the entire 90 minutes. Questions were asked about his lofty price tag of £60 million ($77m) after his transfer, but the winger has proven that he is worth every penny spent as he now boasts 15 goals and 19 assists in 48 appearances for Bayern.

THE BIG LOSER
While Bayern celebrated, it was a day to forget for Monchengladbach’s young left-back Lukas Ulrich. The 21-year-old was frequently isolated and exposed by Olise, who toyed with him from the outset. With little protection from teammate Robin Hack, Ulrich found himself overwhelmed and unable to contain the relentless waves of attacks coming down his flank.
A “world-class” player who has matched Amad Diallo this season is seen as a reported summer transfer target for Manchester United, according to a new report.
Latest Man Utd news
The Red Devils made it into the fifth round of the FA Cup on Friday evening courtesy of a dramatic late victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford.
United’s 2-1 win may not have been the most convincing performance of the season, but Harry Maguire’s last-gasp winner ensured that the reigning cup holders remain in the competition, meaning Ruben Amorim still has a chance of winning domestic silverware in his first season in charge.
In terms of possible incoming transfers for the Red Devils, RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has been linked with a summer switch to the club. The Dutchman moved permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in the January window, but his new club are seemingly looking to move him on swiftly, cashing in on him in the process.
A new striker could also be high on United’s agenda in the summer, due to Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling this season, and Crystal Palace marksman Jean-Philippe Mateta has been rumoured as an option to come in and bolster Amorim’s squad.
Man Utd eyeing move for "world-class" star
According to a report from Spain, Manchester United have Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane on their list of summer targets, seeing him as their most high-profile option to bring in.
Jonathan David, Jonathan Tah, Angel Gomes and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the other players mentioned in the report, as they continue to eye up reinforcements at the end of the season.

Sane is a fantastic winger when he is fit and firing, proving to be an influential figure during his Manchester City days, winning two Premier League titles. He has since won a further three league titles at Bayern, while football talent scout Jacek Kulig once described him as a “world-class” footballer:
This season, Sane has matched Diallo for goals, with the pair both scoring six times in the league, and he has also chipped in with two assists in the German Bundesliga.
The Germany international is now 29 years of age and would demand big wages, so that is the main thing working against United making a move for him.
There is no guarantee that Sane’s best years are ahead of him, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe now needs to adopt an approach where the Red Devils are signing players with potential over ageing figures who are big names.

WHAT HOWE SAID
Howe told reporters: "It’s a source of frustration because I don't see why our players are getting linked, here, there and everywhere with other clubs. I'd like to think the players are happy here. I'd like to think again that they're seeing us grow and develop into a team that hopefully can compete at the top end of the division. Our ability financially to compete during the last few years has been hampered by profit and sustainability rules, but those issues aren’t there for the coming transfer window. So I don’t see any reason why we can’t strengthen, not weaken, ourselves.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Newcastle could beat Arsenal for the fourth time this season when the two sides meet at the Emirates on Sunday and have made huge progress this term, including ending their 70-year wait for silverware in the Carabao Cup. In that context, Howe expects to be able to keep his best players this summer.

WHAT NEXT FOR NEWCASTLE?
The Magpies would all-but secure their place in next season's Champions League by winning that Arsenal clash. They then face Everton at St James' Park to finish the campaign next week.
Tottenham Hotspur have endured their fair share of frustration this season, with Ange Postecoglou’s ambitious project stunted by an unrelenting surge of injuries.
It’s left Spurs stranded in 14th place in the Premier League, with the poor and lasting form eradicating any hopes of qualifying for European competition next season through the top flight.
However, Postecoglou’s side are still in the FA Cup, meeting Aston Villa at Villa Park later today, and finished fourth in the league phase of the Europa League, bypassing the additional knockout round.

There’s hope yet that an exciting finish to the campaign could be forged from the scalding flames of recent months, with Son Heung-min captaining the side and eyeing a maiden piece of silverware.

Son Heung-min's season in numbers
In 2015, Tottenham signed Son from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £22m fee when he was 23 years old. The dynamic forward has since forged a fine career for himself in England, posting 172 goals and 92 assists across 440 appearances and being hailed for his “world-class” quality by Postecoglou last season.
Having taken the armband from the departed Harry Kane at the beginning of Ange’s tenure, Son has been the standout attacker, and even though he’s discernibly on the decline in regard to athleticism and energy this term, he’s still scored 10 goals and supplied 8 assists across 32 matches in all competitions.
Son’s still got enough in the tank to play a big part for his long-served side, but there’s no doubt that he’s struggling, and the recruitment to aid him on the left flank hasn’t been good enough.
Timo Werner is playing in his second successive loan spell at the club and was singled out for his lack of fight and determination by Postecoglou in December, with the Australian manager saying it was “not acceptable”.
Moreover, Wilson Odobert is dealing with a long-term injury after joining from Burnley for £25m last summer – the 20-year-old only featured three times in the league, failing to hit the target or create a big chance while also failing with 68% of his dribbles, as per Sofascore.
Rewarded for his loyalty with a new contract in January, the veteran forward needs to be playing with a higher calibre of support, more energy and impetus. He can’t play twice a week to the same level anymore, and given that Spurs are struggling for players to compete with Son, our mind is cast back to Steven Bergwijn.
Spurs must rue losing Steven Bergwijn
Son is still a potent attacking force. Technically, the South Korean captain is still one of Postecoglou’s best players and his goal record reflects his value.

However, his underlying energy has been diminished, with pundits such as Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp picking up on the changes.
With Son’s aforementioned positional peers struggling to impose themselves, Bergwijn’s particular approach could have gone down a treat in this Postecoglou system.
Plainly, Son is a victim of the system crashing this season and would have benefited greatly from a more stable, less injury-affected campaign, but instead, he’s toiling.
Bergwijn, 27, is now playing his third season since leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but his energy and potency in front of goal would have been the perfect mix to lessen Son’s load and play off the left flank when he tires in Ange’s fast-paced team.
Tottenham signed Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven for a fee in the region of £25m in January 2020, but the electric-paced winger only managed to score 8 goals across 83 matches for the north Londoners.
Embroiled in the thick of Antonio Conte’s downfall, Bergwijn was set up to fail.
Now playing for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League, Bergwijn has enjoyed a healthy return of seven goals and seven assists over 24 matches this season, though his athletic metrics further underscore the quality that Tottenham are missing on their left flank.
Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn
He has averaged 4.3 successful duels, 1.8 dribbles and 1.2 tackles per game in the league this term, as per Sofascore, perfectly illustrating the kind of robust style of play that would be so well suited to Postecoglou’s free-flowing and high-octane football.
Moreover, the 27-year-old has been hailed as a “big-game monster” in the past by journalist John Cross – something that Spurs could have done with, for example, at Anfield earlier this week, with Son branded with a 5/10 match score by Football.london’s Alasdair Gold after his performance, where he was singled out for his inability to get on the ball against Liverpool.
The saving grace is that Tottenham were able to recoup £26m for the failed signing, who fled back to the Dutch Eredivisie to sign with Ajax in July 2022.
However, given that Spurs turned their transfer cannon toward Richarlison, signing the Brazilian for a whopping £60m fee, it’s perhaps less satisfactory.
Tottenham Hotspur's Steven Bergwijn celebrates
Ultimately, Bergwijn was “unlucky at Spurs” – a comment made by pundit and ex-Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson – and it’s quite possible that in different circumstances, perhaps under Postecoglou, he would have enjoyed far greater success in the Premier League.
He’s still firmly in his ostensible prime years, and thus, the likes of Daniel Levy must have some big regrets about letting him leave, for he could have been the perfect option to mitigate Son’s struggles at present.
He's worth far more than Tel: Spurs hit the jackpot with "world-class" star
The incredible international could become a legend at Spurs.
A big-name attacker is seemingly open to the idea of signing for Tottenham Hotspur, with there being a willingness on his side to make the move to north London behind-the-scenes.
Tottenham targeting new forward for Ange this summer
Spurs secured a dramatic, deadline-busting deal for Bayern Munich sensation Mathys Tel near the very end of the winter transfer window – which includes an option to buy the Frenchman for around £45 million – but it is far from a foregone conclusion that he’ll stay beyond this season.

The Lilywhites keeping hold of Tel will depend on the teenager’s final decision, even if he has already agreed terms on a six-year contract if he is to remain (The Athletic), so it is perhaps wise for Spurs to identify attacking alternatives ahead of next campaign.
Tottenham are among the clubs displaying interest in Lille star Jonathan David, who has been a consistently prolific marksman in France and is set to be available on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires.
However, given the Canada international will be one of the bargains of the summer window, following a record of 104 goals across 218 appearances for Lille in all competitions, the competition for his signature will be fierce.
It is already believed that Barcelona are out in pole position to sign David from Lille, with the 25-year-old making no secret of the fact he’s a boyhood fan of the La Liga heavyweights.

“(Barcelona) was always the team I grew up supporting,” he told The Athletic. “When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them.”
Bearing this in mind, Spurs do have other options, albeit potentially much more expensive. Tottenham’s all-time top goalscorer and England legend Harry Kane has been linked with a sensational return to N17, with The Telegraph reporting that they have a first-option agreement in potential talks for the £400,000-per-week Bayern Munich superstar.
However, there is no fixed fee in this arrangement, meaning they’d have to negotiate a price or trigger his release clause (The Telegraph). They’d also have to convince Kane himself, but reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has some encouraging news on that front.
Harry Kane privately refusing to rule out returning to Tottenham
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs says that Kane is privately refusing to rule out re-joining Tottenham, in what could be a boost for Ange Postecoglou.
“I think if Kane returns to the Premier League, there is a willingness to go back to Spurs. That’s not been ruled out by the player,” said Jacobs.
“We have to wait and see if there’s an appetite for Tottenham to do that deal, especially with Dominic Solanke.”
The 31-year-old may be approaching his twilight years, but Kane’s exceptional goalscoring record has not faltered in the slightest. This season, the prolific marksman boasts 29 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, adding to his total Bayern tally of 73 strikes in 76 outings.
