LA Galaxy vs LAFC: Where to watch El Trafico online, live stream, TV channels & kick-off time

Here's where you can watch LA Galaxy vs LAFC in MLS on TV or live stream.

When the Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles FC square off in the first El Trafico game of the season on Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park, one of Major League Soccer's most contentious rivalries will take centre stage.

The Galaxy are one of two MLS teams without a win at this point in the season after losing 3-0 to the Houston Dynamo last Saturday. The defending champions are the only team without a loss after defeating Austin FC 3-0 last week.

Despite having an array of excellent players on its roster, the Galaxy are still struggling six games into the new season, sitting second to last in the Western Conference with just three points.

This club has done well this year in spurts, as manager Greg Vanney has repeatedly noted, but they also have a tendency to lose focus, and it is at those times that they have been punished.

The Galaxy's frustrations reached a breaking point last weekend in Houston when they received two unnecessary red cards. Greg Vanney afterwards apologised to the supporters, calling the players' actions disrespectful of their brand.

LAFC have continued where they left off in 2022, and they appear to be strong favourites to win the MLS Cup again this year. They have managed to avoid defeat in their first six games for the second time since joining the league in 2018, the last time occurring in 2019, when LA won their first Supporters' Shield.

Steve Cherundolo's team moved to the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) semi-finals on Tuesday by defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 and won the match 6-0 on aggregate, demonstrating that not even the demands of that competition can slow them down.

LAFC, who have 14 points domestically after six games and have recorded four straight clean sheets in all competitions, do not currently appear to be affected by weariness.

GOAL brings you everything you need to know about where to watch the game on TV and stream it live online.

Kendry Paez: Why Chelsea have spent £17m on Ecuador's insanely-talented wonderkid

The 16-year-old is is regarded as the best talent to ever emerge out of Ecuador, and he has completed a move to the big-spending Blues

The finest footballing exports from the continent of South America are invariably associated with either Brazil or Argentina, but one precocious Ecuadorian is out to change the narrative.

Kendry Paez has long mixed it with the big boys. Having outgrown both the Under-17 and Under-19 sides, the attacking midfielder made his first-team breakthrough for Independiente del Valle in his home country at just 15 years old, inevitably drawing the attention of some of Europe's elite in the process.

A move to Chelsea beckons when Paez turns 18 in 2025, with the Blues having agreed to pay up to £17 million ($21m) to bring the playmaker to west London as their drive to add bright young talent to both their senior and academy ranks continues apace.

It feels strange to look back at the origins of a career that's still in its infancy, but Paez has come so far in such a short time. GOAL breaks down the prodigy's rise to prominence…

  • Where it all began

Paez has come a long way, both metaphorically and geographically, in his budding career. Born in Ecuador's second city, Guayaquil, in 2007, the midfielder took a huge leap of faith aged 11 by joining Independiente del Valle's academy in Sangolqui on the outskirts of the capital Quito, 260km to the north.

He played for three clubs at youth level before making his big move, including for Barcelona – the most successful team in Ecuador and one of Independiente's biggest rivals. Paez's willingness to leave his hometown at such a tender age reflects the fearlessness he shows on the pitch; this is a player who is determined to succeed no matter what it takes.

    The big break

Paez's name has been on people's lips for some time in his home country – perhaps indicative of the huge expectation on his shoulders in a nation that isn't known for producing world-class talent. However, it was in consecutive youth tournaments in the summer of 2022 that he made himself known to the world, including some of Europe's elite.

In July, Independiente's U18s won the Copa Milo on their home ground, and Paez was the star. With scouts from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in attendance, he scored a brace in the final against Colombia's Atletico Nacional – sweeping home two fine finishes from the edge of the box in the first half.

The following month, he was voted outstanding player at the 2022 Next Generation Trophy in Salzburg, where Independiente's U15s defeated youth teams from the likes of Inter and RB Leipzig before suffering defeat in the final. Paez's most telling contribution was an audacious lob from inside the centre circle against Leipzig. The ball didn't bounce once before hitting the back of the net.

  • Getty Images

    How it's going

Having turned 16 in early May, it seems Paez's days in Independiente's youth teams are already behind him. His exploits in the U18s last year earned him a place in the first-team squad ahead of the 2023 Ecuadorian Serie A season, which got underway in February, as Independiente fast-tracked him amid interest from Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.

He marked his debut against Mushuc Runa in style on the opening day, producing an instinctive, first-time volley to lob the goalkeeper and round off the scoring in a 3-1 victory, becoming both the youngest debutant and goalscorer in Ecuadorian top-flight history.

Having only been left out of La Tri's most recent U20 squad to aid his first-team transition with Independiente, Paez was called-up for the recent U20 World Cup in Argentina, where he was the youngest player on show at the tournament. He impressed against players three or four years old than him as Ecuador reached the knockout rounds, with his displays coming hot off an impressive U17 South American Championship.

The midfielder scored two goals and provided six assists in just eight games as Ecuador finished as runners-up on home soil, with Paez one of the stars of the tournament.

    Biggest strengths

Paez possesses all the attributes you would seek in a modern attacking midfielder; he has dazzling technical dribbling ability, his excellent vision lends itself to pinpoint passing, his feather touch helps him glide past opponents, and he is adept from dead-ball situations thanks to his wand of a left foot.

His height, too, is a significant advantage. According to , Paez already stands at 5'8 (173cm) and, given he is only 16, he still has plenty of room to grow. His rangy frame makes him a formidable opponent at youth level as he towers over average-height youngsters around him and make good use of his physical dominance.

Beyond all of that, though, he evidently has that elite mentality that can so often be the difference between success and failure when a player is first breaking through, and that is reflected in his ability and willingness to mix it with players who are several years his senior, and even lead them on the pitch.

That is something his club manager, Martin Anselmi, has perceived in him: "In Kendry we find someone daring. A boy who asks for it. He is 15 years old and he doesn't care who is in front of him, and he asks for it," he told recently. "He is different type of player. It is the first time that I have seen such a small boy and that…'Well, let's see, what are you made of', and he shows you, he challenges you."

In a previous interview, Anselmi added: "It is not normal for a 15-year-old boy in the first division to have earned the respect of the soccer world in such a short time. He runs, recovers, interprets the game, he is very intelligent to play. When we ask him to get into a certain position to generate an advantage, he does it. All his movements are trained, he carries them out perfectly, understands the game very well and is a guy who is very down to earth in all those ways".

How can the USMNT cope without Weston McKennie or Sergino Dest? The best U.S. starting XI for Nations League final vs Canada

GOAL takes a look at how the U.S. could line up against Canada in the Nations League final.

The U.S. men's national team heads into the Nations League final riding high after their best performance against their fiercest rival in quite some time. To put it lightly, the U.S. took Mexico apart, dominating them all over the field in a straightforward, yet still overly chaotic, win.

In an ideal world, the U.S. would simply run it back in Sunday's final against Canada, deploying the same team to keep the momentum moving. This isn't an ideal world, though, due to that aforementioned chaos.

Weston McKennie and Sergino Dest will both miss the finale after earning straight red cards in the win over Mexico. Neither dismissal has been overly criticized, as both were sent off for matching the passion of the game, but the fact is that the U.S. is now somewhat shorthanded for a big game against a solid Canada team.

Because of that, B.J. Callaghan has some massive decisions to make in his second game in charge. How does he replace two key players, both of whom were spectacular against El Tri? Does he make any other changes in the XI, potentially at striker or centerback? And how does he balance a midfield that is now without both McKennie and Tyler Adams?

GOAL takes a look at what lineup Callaghan should go with for Sunday night's final!

    GK: Matt Turner

No wasting time here; Turner is starting.

He was rarely tested against Mexico, as the USMNT bossed the game, but one would expect Canada to provide a bit more pressure due to their elite-level attackers.

  • Imago Images

    LB: Antonee Robinson

After another solid performance against Mexico, Robinson will almost certainly remain in the XI.

Any slight chance that he'd be benched went out the window when Dest was sent off, as the USMNT's lack of depth at fullback means he'll be in the XI again.

  • Getty Images

    CB: Miles Robinson

Thursday night's win was exactly the type of performance that showed why, given all he's been through, many remain so convinced by Robinson.

He's all the way back from his horrible Achilles injury, as evidenced by his fantastic effort against Mexico. The Atlanta United star had an answer for everything Mexico threw at him, which is why he should remain in the XI.

    CB: Chris Richards

    Why ruin a good thing?

This centerback spot is one that will be up for grabs, with it likely coming down to Richards or Walker Zimmerman. The latter, of course, has the experience edge and will also be well-rested, having only come on for a cameo against Mexico.

But the Richards-Robinson partnership worked really, really well against El Tri, who never really bothered that duo. It's a tough call, for sure, but it seems like a good idea to keep that pairing together as a reward for their solid performance.

Look away, Chelsea! Christian Pulisic dazzles in AC Milan debut as USMNT star scores stunning goal in dream start

Christian Pulisic is off to a dream start to life at Milan, making it clear that he's ready and able to put his Chelsea frustrations behind him.

  • Pulisic scores stunning goal
  • Helps set up former Chelsea teammate Giroud
  • Spectacular start to life in Milan

The young American scored a stunning goal in the Milan victory, which saw the Serie A giants take down Bologna 2-0 in Pulisic's debut.

Pulisic started on the right wing, joining Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao in attack, and contributed to two goals within the first 21 minutes. He helped set up one, which ended in a Giroud finish, before scoring one of his own in the 21st minute to ensure his first match with the club would be a memorable one.

The 24-year-old U.S. men's national team star joined Milan from Chelsea this summer after several frustrating seasons in London.

  • Getty

    WHAT HAPPENED?

Pulisic helped set up the opening goal, which came via Olivier Giroud in the 11th minute. The American winger played the ball to Tijjani Reijnders, who warned the assist for teeing up the Frenchman.

The American wasn't content with just the hockey assist, though, as Pulisic then scored a stunner of his own 10 minutes later. The goal came via a quick one-two with Giroud, who laid the ball off for Pulisic to strike from outside the box. Pulisic, in turn, produced a spectacular finish, finding the back of the net to mark his debut with a fantastic finish.

Pulisic lasted 73 minutes before replaced by fellow new signing Samuel Chukwueze with the game comfortably in hand.

  • Getty

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pulisic started on the right-hand side of the Milan attack, offering a look into Stefano Pioli's plans for him this season.

With Leao entrenched on the left, it was expected that Pulisic would start on the right or perhaps even centrally, replacing Brahim Diaz. If Pulisic were to start centrally, it would open up a spot for Chukwueze, who instead was left on the bench in this one.

Pulisic's performance in this one, though, will certainly convince Pioli that there's no need for change as he was dominant on the right-hand side. He routinely terrorized Bologna's defense, particularly in the first half, as he could have had an assist or two on the day given the chances he created.

  • (C)Getty images

    USMNT IMPACT

All of those in U. S. Soccer's Chicago office will have watched on with a huge smile on their face. The USMNT hasn't seen this Pulisic on the club level for some time.

For the past several years, Pulisic has used his time to rebuild his confidence and, generally, he's done exactly that. No matter what was going on at Chelsea, the American routinely shined when called upon for international duty as he was always able to separate his club form from his international commitments.

However, the USMNT can now begin to wonder how much Pulisic could be when and if he arrives to camp in good form. That was the aim of this move to Milan, to build confidence. The best way to do so? Scoring goals, and Pulisic already has one in his back pocket.

    GOAL'S GRADE

    Christian Pulisic (8/10):

About as good of a debut as you can get. Scored a fantastic goal and was key to how Milan played. Pulisic seemingly fits right in, which is great news after he spent so long on the outside looking in at Chelsea.

    Yunus Musah (N/A):

Debut was delayed as he served a suspension dating back to his time at Valencia. That could be a blessing in disguise, though, as it gives him a bit more time to adjust to his new club after arriving late in the summer.

The 20-year-old United States international has built his reputation in the middle of the park, with his energy and ability being embraced by club and country. That skill set was put to good use at Valencia in Spain, earning Musah a €20 million (£17m/$21m) transfer to San Siro.

He has been eased into the Milan fold, and made his first start for the Rossoneri when operating as a right wing-back in a 3-4-3 formation against Verona. Musah told of filling a wide role: “I felt really good in this position, I do have the characteristics to play on the wing. I like to play more or less anywhere, as sometimes when I am a midfielder, I tend to drift wide anyway.”

  • WHAT THEY SAID

Musah helped Milan to a 1-0 victory in their latest Serie A outing, and he is adjusting quickly to the demands of life in a new country and squad. He told : “I’m happy to have played lots of minutes today and also to have won the game. This is a good squad, which welcomed me with open arms right from day one. There are very good players here, and are also very grounded too, so they helped me adapt right from the start and this has helped me adapt better.”

    WHAT WENGER SAID

In an interview with , the former Arsenal boss compared Zaire-Emery to Mbappe: "We’re speaking of a boy gifted with super talent. He has blossomed exceptionally early. That’s why he’s been called up by Didier. When, at 17, your manager at club level chooses you as one of the first names on the team sheet, that implies that you exude something that is unstoppable. To some extent, he makes me think of Kylian Mbappé in the sense that people are already unanimous on him, at an age where, in general, everyone says: ‘he’s talented, yes, but let’s see’."

Wenger also admitted that he sees some of France's best midfielders in Zaire-Emery: "He has a bit of Paul Pogba’s power, but some common qualities with N’Golo Kanté in his aptitude to win back the ball. Zaïre-Emery is a bit of a mix of the two, a combination of the two 2018 World Champions, with his ability to win the duels without committing fouls and then breaking forward and showing his great vision of the play… He has a bit of Patrick too.
