Manchester United Transfer Roundup: Ben Yedder pursuit, defender can leave, Rashford update

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United have now made two signings during this transfer window, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s confirmed move to Old Trafford following the capture of Dan James. Today’s Red Devils transfer roundup includes updates in regards to the pursuit of a La Liga striker, the potential exit of a defender and a new contract for a star player.

Ben Yedder personal terms agreed

According to Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervion, Manchester United have agreed terms with Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder. As of yet, however, no transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs and sporting director Monchi wants him to stay after netting 30 times in all competitions last season.

Darmian can leave

The Evening Standard is reporting that United have told Matteo Darmian that he can leave the club this summer. The 36-cap Italian international was signed from Serie A club Torino in 2015 and has made 92 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit in his four seasons there.

Rashford’s new contract

Marcus Rashford has signed a new contract with Manchester United, it has been confirmed. The 21-year-old has signed a four-year deal, with the option for an extra year on top. The contract could be worth in excess of £250,000 a week with the incentives it includes.

Crystal Palace fans unhappy with £10m bid for Wan-Bissaka replacement

[ad_pod ]

Some Crystal Palace fans have criticised the club’s plans to bid £10million for Norwich right-back Max Aarons, as per The Mirror’s live transfer blog (July 4, 10:01am).

The Eagles are seeking to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka who recently left Selhurst Park to join Manchester United for a deal which could rise to £50m.

And the south London outfit are hoping to steal a march on Tottenham for the 19-year-old, who helped the Canaries gain promotion back to the Premier League last season.

He played in all but five of the Championship winners’ league games during their triumphant 2018/19 campaign, contributing two goals and eight assists in the process.

It was a breakthrough season for the teenager given he had previously not made a single first-team appearance for the now top tier side.

Are Crystal Palace right to slap a £100m valuation on Wilfried Zaha’s head? Check out the video below to see why they are…

But irrespective of his recent burst onto the scene, Palace supporters do not believe his limited amount of time in Norwich’s first team will mean they can get him in on the cheap.

This was shown by them taking to Twitter to voice their disappointment about the amount the club were willing to offer for the youngster.

Here is some of the reaction:

Sheffield United signing Callum Robinson gives them chance to try new tactic

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Sheffield United have made their third summer signing in the shape of Preston North End forward Callum Robinson.

The Republic Of Ireland international operated mostly on the left wing for the Lilywhites last term, but he can also act as a striker.

What’s the story?

This one has come somewhat from out of nowhere. The Blades weren’t linked to the 24-year-old until Friday morning when Football Insider reported that he was booked in for a medical to join the Steel City outfit. United wasted no time in getting this one done as later that day he was announced as their player.

The attacked enjoyed a solid campaign in the Championship last term as he netted 12 times for the Lancashire club.

New system

Chris Wilder has consistently shown interest in wingers during this transfer window despite the fact his system doesn’t incorporate those types of players.

United have also been linked with Scott Sinclair and Franck Ribery (Kicker via HITC) in this window, but now they have finally got someone through the door who can play in that role.

Wilder’s 5-2-1-2 formation utilises wing-backs rather than wingers, and with Robinson also being able to play as a striker he could fit into that setup, but he also allows Wilder to craft a new system which incorporates wide forwards.

Fans of Norwich, Sheffield United and Ipswich name their club’s worst ever manager in the video below…

Of course, the Blades don’t currently have anyone to operate on the right, but there is still a long way to go in this transfer window and reinforcements can still be brought in.

Wilder certainly needs to adapt his style in the Premier League and a new tactic which looks to get the most out of the wide areas could be just what the doctor ordered if his current system doesn’t work out in the top flight.

West Brom fans welcome Darnell Furlong to the Hawthorns

[ad_pod ]

Earlier this week, it was announced that West Bromwich Albion had completed the signing of Darnell Furlong from Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old has moved to the Hawthorns on a four-year contract, becoming the club’s fourth signing of the summer in the process.

And judging by his Twitter profile, Furlong is absolutely delighted.

Indeed, the defender changed both his background and main picture to images of him with a Baggies shirt.

The Englishman then posted a tweet on Thursday night revealing that he “can’t wait” to get going for the club during the 2019-20 campaign.

As expected, a number of West Brom fans were on hand with responses and many are seemingly looking forward to watching the QPR youth product in action this term.

Having just missed out on a spot in the Championship playoff final, the Baggies will be hoping for a strong season under Slaven Bilic, even if their preparation does not appear conducive to a successful promotion bid.

A selection of the Twitter reaction to Furlong’s tweet can be seen below:

Arsenal stars Lacazette and Aubameyang reply to Iwobi’s Instagram post

[ad_pod ]

Nigeria have done an excellent job at the 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

After barely beating Tunisia in a tight one-nil affair that took place a couple of days ago, the Super Eagles have claimed the bronze medal, which they will take home with pride.

Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, one of Nigeria’s star players, has taken to

/B0CaM7QgDg9/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram in the aftermath of the tournament to send a short but effective message to the fans.

Iwobi just stated that they will take the bronze, implying that the squad can take some satisfaction from their effort this summer even if they were hoping to clinch a different colour medal.

The image, or rather the whole of Nigeria’s AFCON run, prompted some of Iwobi’s teammates to reply to the snap, sending their best wishes to their fellow Gunner.

Both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were quick to send some support Iwobi’s way.

Lacazette just posted a series of emojis while Aubameyang told him he earned his respect.

The 23-year-old has already played a total of 36 games for his country, scoring six goals in the process.

In the seven games he took part in this summer, he netted one goal along the way.

Tottenham could receive £15m for outgoing Josh Onomah

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive £15m as they look to sell Josh Onomah in the summer transfer window, per Football Insider.

What’s the word?

Spurs are currently in talks with Huddersfield Town over a deal that will finally see Onomah leave the club.

He has been under contract with the north London club since 2015 but he has played a mere 92 minutes of Premier League football in that time.

Nevertheless, the Terriers, who have sold Philip Billing to AFC Bournemouth, are interested in bringing him in.

The club, the report states, received £15m for Billing and could reinvest that money into the ex-England Under-21 international.

Huddersfield face competition, though, with clubs in England and from abroad enquiring about the 22-year-old.

A massive boon for Levy

This would be fantastic business by Spurs.

Of course, transfer fees have ballooned in recent years and it is remarkably difficult to actually place a value on players.

One imagines, however, that Onomah should not be worth £15m.

He has spent the last two seasons at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday respectively and he is, by all accounts, a fine Championship player.

Indeed, he made 37 appearances for Villa and 15 for Wednesday and is well-versed in the rigours of the second-tier.

He would probably be a very good signing for Huddersfield but receiving a £15m fee for a player who is nothing more than a Tottenham reserve would be a major boost for chairman Daniel Levy.

Indeed, the Spurs powerbroker has been linked with a number of moves before the transfer deadline, with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Paulo Dybala all reportedly targets.

Adding £15m to the kitty will surely help those negotiations.

Celtic removing Daniel Arzani from their UCL squad raises doubts over his future

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Daniel Arzani has been taken out of Celtic’s Champions League squad for their tie with CFR Cluj in favour of Hatem Abd Elhamed, and it doesn’t look good for the young Australian.

On the chalkboard

The 20-year-old Manchester City loanee is facing yet another setback at Parkhead. The attacking midfielder has had a hard time since coming to Scotland, tearing his ACL on his debut just minutes after coming off the bench against Dundee.

The latest blow to his chances comes just as he’s returning to the first-team fold, which has to make you wonder if Neil Lennon sees any place for him whatsoever. Elhamed, an injury doubt for the game himself, has been given the chance in place of Arzani.

Just as the star looked like he was ready to earn another chance to carve out a career at the club, Lennon has brought him right back down to earth, revealing exactly where he sits in the pecking order.

Where does the news leave Arzani?

Being dropped from the squad shows how far down the pecking order the Australian is at Celtic Park.

For the wide-berths, he faces stiff competition from a plethora of talent. James Forrest has the right-hand side all but nailed down and youngster Mikey Johnston has started the season well, with the likes of Scott Sinclair, Marian Shved and Lewis Morgan waiting patiently in the wings. That’s a formidable list of players for Arzani to oust, and the prospects of getting in the side as a number ten aren’t much brighter.

Ryan Christie has established himself as the team’s first-choice creator already this season, with Tom Rogic still injured and Olivier Ntcham only just returning to prominence against Nomme Kalju.

Even the early-season change of formation to 3-5-2 would count against Arzani. The switch to a three at the back removes an attacking role to allow for more stability in the defence, which hardly suits the 20-year-old. He is not fitted to the two sitting roles in midfield, nor is he capable of doing the defensive duties of a wing-back.

The youngster will be hopeful of making an impact at Parkhead before his loan ends and he returns to Manchester City, but the competition in front of him and lack of an actual defined role are going to make life very difficult indeed.

Arsenal fans suggest Henrikh Mkhitaryan should have been sold instead of Alex Iwobi

[ad_pod ]

With the arrivals of David Luiz and Kieran Tierney, Alex Iwobi’s transfer to Everton fell slightly by the wayside on deadline day.

The Nigeria international had spent his entire career with the Gunners, scoring 15 goals in 127 appearances. During his time at the Emirates Stadium, he won one FA Cup and two Community Shields.

[ad_pod ]

However, although he was never a guaranteed starter and a large chunk of Arsenal fans initially wanted the club to take the money and run, some Gunners followers believe he should have stayed at the Emirates, suggesting that Henrikh Mkhitaryan would have been the better option to move on.

The two had similar seasons in terms of stats last campaign, but Iwobi was actually slightly better from a statistical point of view. He scored six goals and created nine, whilst the 83-cap Armenia international netted the same amount but provided just seven.

Mkhitaryan is 30 years old, which means not only will his re-sale value continue to decrease, but he also does not represent the long-term future of the club. Iwobi, meanwhile, is just 23, and therefore has plenty of years in front of him to develop.

Gunners supporters have been vocal on Twitter, and have shared their thoughts about the decision. You can check out some of the best comments below.

West Ham fans are torn over who’s better between Aaron Cresswell & Arthur Masuaku

[ad_pod ]

Some West Ham fans on Twitter have been debating about who the better player is between Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku, after Manuel Pellegrini rotated his options for the trip to Brighton.

Cresswell started last weekend’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City and came in for a lot of criticism from some Hammers fans, and Pellegrini clearly agreed with them as he dropped the England international for Masuaku.

The DR Congo international helped the Irons to a 1-1 draw against the Seagulls, prompting some supporters below to praise him and say that the 25-year-old is the superior player to Cresswell.

However, others felt that the former Olympiacos man wasn’t all that, and have chosen to ridicule those who felt Cresswell should be dropped in favour of Masuaku – it seems to have split the supporters below completely.

You can teach yourself 3 crazy football skills in the video below…

One thing is for certain though – the left-back position is arguably West Ham’s weakest area, and one can only imagine why a new face wasn’t signed in the summer.

Let’s see what the clearly divided West Ham fans on Twitter think about Masuaku and Cresswell…

Man Utd must use last season’s defeats to Wolves as a lesson on Monday

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Wolves may have surprised the Premier League last season by finishing in seventh, but it was Manchester United who truly felt shell-shocked by the Midlands side.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men faced the Red Devils on three occasions, and did not taste defeat once. They held United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in September, before registering a pair of triumphs in the FA Cup quarter-finals and Premier League at Molineux. They truly were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side’s ‘bogey team’.

After an emphatic 4-o win over top-four rivals Chelsea last weekend, United’s tails are understandably up. The Red Devils looked blistering on the break and all three of their summer signings enjoyed an impressive debut. But on Monday night, Solskjaer and his team will come up against a mirror image of the way they play. Soaking up the pressure and hitting teams on the counter. The secret to Wolves’ success last season.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

When United travel to Molineux, Solskjaer simply has to heed some of the painful lessons they were taught previously. Wolves’ tried-and-trusted formation of five-at-the-back has brought them great success and plays right into their strong points of having genuine width and two workaholic forwards.

The Red Devils were undone by the likes of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota relentlessly pressing the defence and opening up passing lanes with their movement.

Harry Maguire’s arrival will help bring a sense of defensive togetherness to the United back-line, but unlike against Chelsea, the Red Devils will probably dominate much of the ball.

It will be on the visitors to take the game to the home side, and that was certainly their undoing last time. Solskjaer should counteract this by being willing to concede possession to try and recreate some of that counter-attacking magic we saw last weekend at Old Trafford.

Play them at their own game, after-all, the speed and talent in United’s ranks is surely superior to that of their hosts.

Whether they can pull it off remains to be seen, but ensuring they don’t simply turn up with the same mindset that saw them rocked twice last term will stand them in much better stead this time around.
