James Anderson conceded a world-record 28 runs off the final over of Australia’s innings as he came under an assault from George Bailey.

George Bailey, Australia’s newest Test player, has joined Brian Lara in the history books by equalling his world record of 28 runs in a Test over. Bailey’s assault came off the bowling of James Anderson in the final over of Australia’s second innings at the WACA and matched Lara’s mauling of Robin Peterson at the Wanderers, which occurred ten years ago almost to the day.Bailey, who was playing his third Test, could have been forgiven for batting conservatively given that he has yet to really cement his place in the side, but followed the team plan for quick runs to allow Michael Clarke to declare once the lead passed 500. His attack against a bowler of Anderson’s quality and Test experience highlighted the gulf that has grown between the two sides this series and pleased his team-mates no end.”We didn’t know it was a record,” Shane Watson said after stumps. “There’s no doubt we’ve had quite a few bad experiences against Jimmy Anderson. To see that is always nice to have the shoe on the other foot, because he’s certainly had the upper hand on a lot of our batsmen in the Ashes series that I’ve been involved in … at certain times individuals in the Australian team have been at his mercy. It certainly provided a little bit of enjoyment for us.”Watson had already thrilled the crowd with a sustained assault on the England bowlers earlier in the session, his best over having brought 22 when he launched Graeme Swann down the ground for three sixes. But Bailey’s efforts were all the more remarkable given Anderson’s pace, and brought to mind the way he has played in his highly successful one-day international career.He began with a hard cut that flew over the slips and ran away for four, then followed up with a straight six that cleared the sightscreen at the Prindiville Stand End. A two clipped through the leg side followed, and then came a better-placed swat through square leg for four. Bailey finished the over with two more sixes down the ground, one that just cleared long-off and another that sailed much further into the crowd at long-on.Anderson was unable to find a length that stopped Bailey from getting under the ball but Clarke’s declaration at the end of the over prevented any further carnage, although Anderson and his team-mates still looked dejected as they left the field facing a chase of 504. Bailey was left unbeaten on 39 from 30 deliveries; he had started the over with 11 from 24 balls.Anderson now holds the unwanted record of most runs conceded by a fast bowler in a Test over, the previous record having been the 25 that Andy Roberts took off Ian Botham at Port-of-Spain in 1980-81. Australia’s previous record for most runs in an over was the 26 that Mitchell Johnson – Bailey’s partner during the over – clubbed off Paul Harris at the Wanderers in 2008-09.

وانتهت المباراة خلال الشوطين بالتعادل السلبي، حيث لم ينجح الفريقان في تسجيل الأهداف واستغلال الفرص القليلة التي جاءت في أحداث اللقاء.

The MCG has reported a world-record attendance for a day of Test cricket, with 91,092 spectators officially accounted for during the final session on Boxing Day.At 4.15pm the scoreboard at the ground relayed the message that a new world record had been set, surpassing the 90,800 who attended the second day of the 1960-61 Test against West Indies at the MCG.”As the birthplace of Test cricket, it is fitting that the MCG has again broken the attendance record for a single day of Test match cricket,” said MCC CEO Stephen Gough. “We congratulate Cricket Australia on this achievement and also acknowledge the contribution of our members towards making the Boxing Day Test a hallmark event on the sporting calendar.””On the back of 100,000-plus people at the AFL Grand Final in September and more than 95,000 witnessing Liverpool FC play a soccer friendly in July, this year has again proven beyond doubt that the MCG is the home of Australian sport and an iconic destination in our city.”Although the figure is the highest ever officially counted for a day’s play, Eden Gardens in Kolkata often drew massive crowds in past decades that could have exceeded the Melbourne number but were not officially measured.MCG record cricket attendances

Asked about the reported breakdown of relations between Pietersen and the England team director, Andy Flower, Cook attempted to dead-bat the issue.”It’s very hard for me to talk to you the media about this. It’s very hard,” he said. “I can’t do that. Confidentiality and stuff like that – what happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room. I refuse to do that.”Cook, speaking for the first time since the latest stories emerged, appeared uncomfortable with the line of questioning, as the difficulties of a 5-0 Ashes whitewash threatened to bleed into subsequent engagements. Now, as a stopgap captain in place of Mushfiqur Rahim, he has made the most imaginative attempt by a Bangladeshi captain. With only 120 runs to defend, Mashrafe rotated his bowlers wisely, but in the end, Bangladesh went down on the final ball.With two needed off the last delivery, Sachithra Senanayake smacked a short delivery from Farhad Reza for four. It was perhaps a cruel end for the bowler, as Reza had bowled five good deliveries before that when he started off with nine required off the final over. It was a lucky break for Sri Lanka, who have now won the series 2-0, and head to Dhaka for the ODI leg of the tour full of confidence.In the tense finish, Senanayake and Thisara Perera, surprised with their lack of boundaries – the final six overs had only three fours – but they scampered the ones and twos, winning the game with a 27-run stand from 3.2 overs.Bangladesh were tremendous in the field, particularly Mashrafe who didn’t let the Sri Lankan top-order settle as he kept using bowlers for just one over each from the start.Arafat Sunny gave just eight runs from his two overs and even picked up a wicket, as did Rubel Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah. Mashrafe himself snared two scalps.Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal fell by missing reverse-sweeps while Tillakaratne Dilshan was bowled when looking to cut. Mashrafe’s two-wicket over, the tenth of the innings, turned the game towards Bangladesh. He removed Angelo Perera with a fast off-cutter, and then took out Angelo Mathews with one that went out, inducing an edge.Nuwan Kulasekara was run-out after he was turned back by the non-striker, but Kumar Sangakkara kept the runs flowing and eventually ended as the team’s highest run-getter with 37. However, in the 17th over in which he had taken 11 runs, Sangakkara found short third-man where Tamim Iqbal took a smart catch.When Bangladesh decided to bat, Kulasekara’s two wickets went by unnoticed.
