Shane Warne and Rajasthan Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Dixit, the protagonists of an argument over the changing of pitches in Jaipur during the IPL, are waiting for the BCCI’s judgement on the issue after a hearing in Mumbai. They appeared before a panel comprising IPL chairman Chirayu Amin, Ravi Shastri and IMG’s legal counsel John Loffhagen, and gave their versions of the incident, which took place after Rajasthan Royals lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.”We had a long meeting and the judgement is awaited,” Dixit said. “Our views have been heard by the panel and the hearing was conducted in a very good atmosphere. The proceedings of the hearing are confidential. I am not at liberty to reveal the proceedings.”Dixit said the hearing was only about the complaint he lodged with the IPL regarding Warne’s alleged misbehaviour. When asked if the RCA was considering filing a criminal complaint against Warne, Dixit said he would wait for the judgement before making a decision. Warne attended the hearing with Sean Morris, Rajasthan’s chief executive, and they left immediately after without speaking to the media.The RCA had complained to the BCCI and IPL that Warne reportedly abused Dixit after his team’s loss to Bangalore in Jaipur. The pitch used for that game, and the previous one against Chennai Super Kings, was different from the one Warne’s team had enjoyed a strong home advantage on. The reported that RCA venue director Narendra Joshi had written to IPL’s chief operating officer Sundar Raman, alleging that Warne had publicly abused Dixit by calling him “a liar and egoistic,” and demanded action against Warne.Since the pitch was changed on May 9, Warne and Dixit have engaged in a war of words that has been fought in public, private and through the media. The hearing in Mumbai followed RCA’s rejection of an apology offered by the Rajasthan franchise, with the state board also threatening further action if the matter was not resolved to its satisfaction.

Rilee Rossouw has been called up to the South Africa A squad for the upcoming limited-overs tournaments in Zimbabwe and Malaysia as a replacement for Dean Elgar, who has had to pull out with a broken hand. The 21-year-old Rossouw, a left-hand top-order batsman, was on the South Africa A tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka last year.He was also a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad in the IPL but didn’t get a game during the tournament. Rossouw came through the Under-19s and impressed in the 2008-09 domestic season in South Africa finishing as his side’s highest run-getter. He has also got four hundreds in List A cricket and has a strike-rate of 92.72Elgar’s hand injury was confirmed by the CSA medical committee. “We are sorry to lose a senior player at this level in Dean, who has also captained this group with distinction,” CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson said, “but at the same time this is an opportunity for Rilee and, as I have said before, we are delighted to have the depth that enables us to call up a replacement of this calibre.”South Africa A will play a tri-series against Zimbabwe A and Australia A in Zimbabwe in June-July.

Mudanças nos times

Pelos mandantes, Leo Valencia foi cortado e quem entrou como titular no ataque foi Kieza, ao lado de Brenner. Outra novidade foi o uruguaio Rodrigo Aguirre no banco pela primeira vez. Do lado do Flu, apesar do desgaste na altitude, Abel Braga só colocou Luan Peres, estreando como titular, no lugar de Frazan, e Marcos Junior na vaga de Pablo Dyego.

O Tricolor entrou mais ligado em campo e teve as melhores oportunidades na primeira etapa. Com marcação adiantada e se aproveitando dos vários erros dos alvinegros, o Flu tentou chutes de fora da área e bolas levantadas, provocando pelo menos quatro boas defesas de Jefferson. Gols na parte final

Apesar de não ter chegado com tanta qualidade, foi o Botafogo quem abriu o placar. Aos 26 minutos, Breno, da esquerda, virou bem o jogo para Marcinho na direita. O lateral cruzou para a área, Rodrigo Lindoso antecipou a marcação e cabeceou no canto direito de Júlio César. No entanto, aos 33, o Flu, enfim, acertou o caminho das redes e, após passe de Marcos Junior, Pedro marcou de peito e deixou tudo igual.

Botafogo perigoso e eficiente

No segundo tempo, o Flu passou a dar mais espaços e sofreu com isso. Em uma dessas chances, o Botafogo retomou a liderança no placar. Aos 18 minutos, Marcinho levantou a bola na área e Kieza se antecipou a Gum para marcar. O Alvinegro dominou a posse de bola e inverteu o que havia ocorrido na primeira etapa.No final, com as mudanças de Abel, o Flu teve outras duas boas chances, mas parou em Jefferson e na falta de pontaria.

Andrew Strauss has said he would be “absolutely” willing to undergo a lie-detector test, if it was decided that they were the way forward in combating corruption in the sport, after Steve Waugh underwent the process and called for figurehead players to lead the way.Waugh would ideally like international captains to take the lead in rooting out match-fixing even though he knows polygraphs could never be made compulsory. While his proposals received support from Strauss his opposite number, MS Dhoni, was less forthcoming with a straight “no comment” and suggested that he hadn’t heard of the idea when asked whether he would take a test.Strauss added that a lot of work would need to be done to prove if lie-detectors worked – and there are many differing opinions over the accuracy of testing – but was in favour of anything that could tackle corruption. “My response is that I’m in favour of anything that helps us get to the bottom of any wrong-doing in the game,” he said. “It’s vitally important for cricket going forward that it’s as clean as possible and can demonstrate it’s as clean as possible.”The devil is always in the detail with this sort of thing. I don’t know exactly how lie detectors work and how accurate they are, but I like the idea of it. I like the idea of us getting down to the nitty-gritty and finding out if any wrong-doing has been going on and therefore making the sport cleaner as a result.”During the test that Waugh undertook in Australia he read a prepared declaration stating that he had never been involved in fixing a cricket match, or any element of a match, and it may be a template that could be followed in the future.”I, Steve Roger Waugh, do hereby declare that during my cricketing career except for manipulating matches for purely strategic or tactical reasons I never deliberately under-performed or fixed a cricket match or a passage of play within a match or did anything other than try my hardest for any cricket team I played for.”I never received any form of payment, either in money or as a gratuity or benefit in return for under-performing in any cricket match I have played in.”Waugh said that it was his frustration at endless questions about corruption that prompted the idea of polygraphs. “There are a lot of rumours out there about match-fixing and spot-fixing. I became sick and tired about being asked if games I played in were above board.”
