O Atlético-GO fechou a contratação do volante Rodrigo, na tarde desta quinta-feira. Com 23 anos, o atleta já defendeu Goiás, Palmeiras e Sport.Atualmente, Rodrigo pertence ao Tombense e chega ao Atlético-GO por empréstimo até o fim de 2018.

Revelado pelo time goiano, Rodrigo se destacou nas categorias de base do esmeraldino e subiu ao elenco profissional em 2014. Em 2015, o volante teve uma boa sequencia no time profissional do Goiás, mas o clube foi rebaixado à Série B.

Depois da passagem pela equipe goiana, Rodrigo foipara o Palmeiras com vínculo de dois anos. Em 2017, foi emprestado ao Sport e disputou 30 partidas pelo rubro-negro.

O volante é o 15º reforço contratado pelo Atlético-GO para a temporada. The closest anyone came was England’s deposed one-day opener Joe Denly, who batted admirably for almost four hours only to miss out on his maiden century of the summer by five runs.Resuming on their overnight score of 43 for 1, Kent made decent progress in the first session through a second-wicket stand of 89 in 23 overs between Denly and 19-year-old nightwatchman Matt Coles.The Maidstone-born all-rounder contributed a career-best 41 before becoming Clarke’s opening victim – strangled from a leg-side glance off Clarke’s loosener he was easily caught by Tim Ambrose. The tall all-rounder, who won two England Test caps on the 2003/04 tour of Bangladesh, completed his day’s work by trapping James Hockley (20) and Simon Cook leg before in the final throws, while Tahir sent Amjad Khan packing in similar fashion for a third-ball duck.

Aston Villa have made no qualms in strengthening their squad during the current January transfer window with Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Robin Olsen all being brought in to help strengthen Steven Gerrard’s squad.

With those players now through the door and integrating themselves in the squad, the Midlands club look set to try and tie down the future of one of their key current players.

What’s the news?

According to a recent Twitter post from journalist John Percy, Villa are “are poised to open talks” with midfielder Douglas Luiz over a new contract following interest from Premier League clubs in the current window.

The midfielder, whose current deal at the Midlands club is set to expire in the summer of 2023, has garnered interest from Arsenal in recent weeks.

Gerrard will be thrilled

Villa signed the Brazilian from fellow Premier League side Manchester City back in the 2019 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £15m.

Since then, the 23-year-old has gone on to cement himself as an important figure for the Villans by making 94 appearances across all competitions with three goals and eight assists under his belt.

Having started 16 of the 17 Premier League games he’s appeared in this season as well as racking up an overall performance rating of 6.91/10 from WhoScored, making him Villa’s third-highest rated player, it’s easy to see why the club would want to open talks with Luiz over a potential new contract to tie him down to Villa and shoo away any interest from Arsenal, which would surely please a lot of fans.

If the £31.5m-rated ace does end up signing a new deal at the Midlands club, this would surely please Gerrard as well the fans given how he clearly recognises Luiz’s talents by playing him so regularly.

The Villa boss made this clear by recently saying that he and his coaching staff rate the midfielder “extremely” highly.

Moving forward, if the Villans can get Luiz to sign a new deal in the coming days and pledge his future to the project that Gerrard is building, this could be seen as just as important as their recent transfer deals earlier in the window.

Wolves have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey on deadline day, with a loan deal in the offing.

The Lowdown: Ramsey leaving Juve?

The 31-year-old traded Arsenal for Juve back in 2019, but while he would have hoped to kick on to another level at the Serie A giants, he has had a disappointing spell there. Ramsey has been limited to only 70 appearances in the space of three years, with injuries certainly not helping matters along the way.

There seems to be no future for the Welshman in Turin and it may be that he seals a last-minute return to the Premier League this month.

The Latest: Wolves offered midfielder

According to The Daily Mail, Juve are willing to offer Ramsey to Wolves, should Bruno Lage give the move the green light.

Burnley, Newcastle United, Everton and Crystal Palace are all mentioned in the report, too.

The Verdict: Worth a last-gasp swoop

Ramsey may have struggled to impress in Italy but he could still be an excellent loan signing for Wolves if they get him, considering the career he has carved out down the years.

At 31, he still has some years left in him at the top level, and his record of 65 goals and 65 assists in 371 appearances for Arsenal speaks volumes about his quality in midfield. He has also been hailed as ‘very intelligent’ by Juve teammate Federico Chiesa.

Wolves would also be in the luxurious position where they could simply part ways with Ramsey in the summer if it doesn’t work out, moving on to different targets instead.

Pakistan may have gone through turmoil in recent months, and suffered a league-stage exit in the Asia Cup, but coach Waqar Younis has said it will only be a matter of time before they start winning matches. Pakistan ended their campaign in Sri Lanka with a 139-run win against Bangladesh in Dambulla, after losing to the hosts and India.”We are very close to being winners,” Waqar said. “We didn’t do badly in the T20 World Cup and even in this tournament. It’s just that one extra step you need to take and start winning the games. I think it will come very soon. We got heaps of cricket after this. I think by the time we finish the England tour, or start the South African tour, we will start winning and we will look good. We still look a good side at the moment and these youngsters need a bit more time.”In the subcontinent and Asia, I know it gets very frustrating very quickly when you are not winning. But now I feel like they look like one team. They look to win but it’s not coming as we have seen in the recent past. But soon it will come.”Waqar said that he was happy with Pakistan’s performance against Bangladesh and with their performance in the Asia Cup. “We are in a rebuilding process, with a couple of youngsters in our side. It’s a great learning curve for them. We didn’t qualify [for the final] but I know the boys performed extremely well. They batted well, bowled well and what they are missing on the field will come with experience.”He also praised the captaincy of Shahid Afridi and his contribution to the team. Afridi scored two centuries in three matches – against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – and signed off with a scorching 124 off 60 balls. “You always need your captain to be performing and the captain to be in form. Afridi played a superb knock. It’s superb that he has scored runs and taken wickets that will really help the future of Pakistan cricket.””Once we start winning it will be a different story. The wins are not coming but Afridi has got it in him. If the captain can go and play this sort of knock that shows that he’s got the leadership qualities. It’s just that a little bit more experience will do him a world of good.”Waqar was also pleased with the way Shoaib Akhtar was shaping up after returning to the national side following a lengthy absence. “Shoaib is still a little rusty and he needs more bowling. We are ready to give it to him in the mode of one-dayers and T20s,” he said. “We’ll go about him gradually and slowly. He bowled well in this tournament, quite fast and he’s become a very intelligent bowler. I think he will come good in the near future.”
