Pakistan and Australia will play two Tests and two Twenty20 internationals in England next July, after the England & Wales Cricket Board reached a staging agreement with their Pakistan counterparts.”We’ve reached a contractual agreement with the PCB, although the nature of those details remains confidential at the moment for obvious reasons,” an ECB spokesman told Cricinfo. “We haven’t agreed on the venues yet, that will have to be determined by the Major Match Group, but clearly we will want to do that as soon as practically possible so that we can market the games.”The decision follows hot on the heels of Pakistan’s superb showing in the World Twenty20, in which they beat Sri Lanka in the final at Lord’s, having been supported throughout the tournament by arguably the most vociferous and passionate fans in the country. With virtually no prospect of cricket returning to Pakistan in the near future after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus at Lahore in March, England promises to provide the exiled team with the perfect home from home.”The Pakistan team performed outstandingly well in the World T20 tournament in England and were worthy world champions,” said the ECB chairman, Giles Clarke. “The passion of the support for their team in England demonstrated why this country is an ideal venue for these matches against Australia.””The warm relations between our two Boards has developed further under the leadership of the current PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt, with whom I enjoy an excellent working relationship, and ECB is delighted to support Pakistan in staging these matches.”For the final of the World Twenty20 at Lord’s, the vast majority of the fans in the stadium were Pakistani, and according to Keith Bradshaw, MCC’s chief executive, the atmosphere they created was “electric”. He was very hopeful that the experience of that match would persuade the Major Match Group that Lord’s is the logical venue to stage such a game.”I think we’ve said all along we’re right behind the concept of neutral Tests,” said Bradshaw. “We are the home of cricket and so our doors are open. We are very keen to stage the match and we’ll be bidding hard to stage a Test.”When Pakistan were here for the final the atmosphere was electric, as it was the week before when India were here. I know that Tests in London are still very strong in terms of attendance, both here and at The Oval, and to keep Test cricket as the pinnacle of the game it would be a logical place to stage such a match.”Another venue with strong claims to hosting a Test is Headingley, given the size of the Pakistani population in and around Leeds and Bradford. “We feel that of all of the venues, given our demographic and track record in staging matches, we’d be very well placed and would make Pakistan feel at home,” Stewart Regan, Yorkshire’s chief executive, told Cricinfo.”Nothing has changed since the previous discussions in the media several weeks ago. We have put our hat in the ring and said we would be very interested in talking to the ECB and PCB about staging one of the Test matches.”Regardless of the enthusiastic response to the news, there remain several hurdles to be overcome before the series can be set in stone, not least the thorny issue of TV rights. In November 2008, the PCB agreed a US$140.5 million five-year television contract with Taj Entertainment Network (Ten Sports), with a clause that enabled series to take place at neutral venues in the event of an adverse security situation. It remains to be seen whether BSkyB, who hold the rights to England home series, will contest the staging of such a contest on their turf.The ECB and PCB also confirmed that England will host Pakistan for four Tests, five ODIs and two T20Is in August and September of next year.Clarke, meanwhile, has accepted the role of chairman of the ICC Pakistan Task Team, a body set up by the ICC to provide strategies and solutions to assist the PCB in protecting its position in international cricket.”The Pakistan Cricket Board is faced with a very challenging situation at present and ECB in its role as a member of the global cricket community is keen to offer PCB all possible assistance at such a difficult time,” said Clarke. “I am delighted to take on this role and will be liaising closely with my colleagues at PCB in the coming weeks and months.”

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has dropped an update from behind-the-scenes about the current state of affairs at Leeds United.

What’s the story?

Marcelo Bielsa’s side picked up only their second win of the Premier League season when they beat fellow strugglers Norwich City at the weekend, and Hay has now suggested that there remains an internal belief that the Whites will turn the corner sooner rather than later.

He said: “The attitude of the club is very much that the team will play better when key players return from injury (for a sustained period) and individual form picks up. One of the main messages from yesterday and Wolves is that the players are fighting for this – in comparison to Norwich who really looked like they threw the towel in at 2-1.”

Looking forward with Bielsa

While the start to this Premier League campaign has been nothing short of disastrous – whether that’s been through a lack of results or a number of injuries to key players – the momentum that the win over Norwich could bring could be seismic.

Leeds face a home clash against Leicester City this Sunday, with the Foxes of course coming off the back of a disappointing defeat at home to Arsenal last weekend, and with the added obstacle of having to navigate a Europa League encounter against Spartak Moscow tomorrow.

Once that game is done, the Whites will have the international break to get through, and arguably, it has come at a very good time. The extra time Bielsa will get to work with the players on the training ground could prove to be invaluable, while perhaps more importantly, it gives an extra two weeks or so for some of his injured players to close in on a return to fitness.

The likes of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips have been in and out of the side in recent weeks due to injury, so if they don’t get called up for the international break, the extra rest could prove to be vital. The same can also be said of Patrick Bamford, and getting the club’s starting striker back could ensure the Whites come into that game against Spurs with a bit more spring in their step.

It’s exactly why Hay’s update from what people are thinking at Thorp Arch is sure to excite Leeds fans going forward.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Paul Brown of The Daily Star has shared what he believes on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.

The Lowdown: Alli nightmare…

Since the beginning of last season, life at Spurs for the England international has not been pleasant to say the least.

It seems like an eternity since Alli’s astonishing breakthrough Premier League campaign of 2015/2016 yielded 10 goals and nine assists in 28 Premier League starts as a relative unknown (WhoScored).

Stellar 16/17 and 17/18 campaigns followed in terms of goals and assists combined but the 25-year-old has arguably been on an ever-so-slow downward spiral ever since.

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho exiled the midfielder over 2020/2021, with Alli starting just seven Premier League games, but his successor in Nuno Espirito Santo was far more generous.

Having attempted to get the best out of Alli, playing him in over half of Spurs’ top flight matches, the Portuguese could not revive his form before being sacked.

The arrival of Antonio Conte gifts yet another fresh start for the Tottenham ace but Brown believes he may have just clutched at his last N17 lifeline.

Speaking to GMS, the reporter believes that Alli is in fact ‘out of time’ at Tottenham and under Conte – citing his style of play as a key factor.

“I can’t see a role for Dele Alli. He’s kind of a man out of time. He’s one of those players who made a living on brilliant late runs into the box, the timing of his arrival, he did score a lot of goals through that. But football has changed over the last few years.”

The Verdict: Bang on the money…

Once lauded as ‘one of the best in Europe’ by former Spurs fan favourite boss Mauricio Pochettino, Alli’s trajectory to the fringes of Tottenham’s senior squad has been somewhat surprising to watch.

Three years ago, the player was scoring for England in crucial World Cup knockout games but now finds himself at the centre of reports linking him with a Spurs departure.

Newcastle are said to be one of the teams interesting in taking Alli and we believe selling to them, or any interested suitor with the funds available, should certainly be considered by managing director Fabio Paratici at this point.

Tottenham had the chance to let him gain some experience playing with Ligue 1 superstars at Paris-Saint Germain but Daniel Levy refused to sanction the move last January.

If offered that same opportunity again, Spurs may have to weigh his exit as a genuine possibility unless he can perform a stunning U-turn and finally resurrect his Lilywhites career.

The replacement ball swung alarmingly and Pakistan lost three wickets for two runs in eight balls to end the day at 289 for 7.”If you analyse the first two Test matches and this one, everytime the ball was changed it has worked,” Alam said. “Today they changed it twice and I don’t want to say anything about it, but it’s just one of those things. The first ball they changed didn’t do anything and they certainly got the right ball and it did the trick. It’s part and parcel of the game.”I would have been much happier if we were 280 for 4. [Shoaib] Malik and Misbah [ul-Haq] were playing very well and had everything under their control. Cricket is full of surprises and full of uncertainties. Everyday you see something different and something new you still keep on learning.”Alam said that had Pakistan won the toss they would have batted first as well. “No doubt about that,” Alam said. “We’ve selected two spinners in the side and when you do that you don’t want to bowl first. Sri Lanka won the toss and put us in and they have a different idea of the wicket. We scored almost a hundred runs in each of the three sessions but we’ve lost about three wickets more which we shouldn’t have.”We need another 100 runs and if we have something like 400 or something near to that we will have a good game on our hands. This wicket will turn for [Danish] Kaneria. Especially in the first half, some of the deliveries the left-armer [Rangana Herath] bowled turned a little bit and bounced as well. The wicket looks very dry and bowling last will help.”Opener Khurram Manzoor, who missed out on a maiden Test hundred by seven runs, said he was upset at playing the wrong shot. “I did my best, but I’m disappointed in a way that this would have been my first Test hundred,” Manzoor said. “My job was to stay at the wicket and see the shine off the ball. I am also disappointed the way [Mohammad] Yousuf got out. It was uncalled for.”Manzoor and Yousuf put on 167 for the third wicket before Manzoor was caught behind off Chaminda Vaas and seven runs later Yousuf was run out attempting a second run on an overthrow.”This is the first time I’ve played with Yousuf he encouraged and supported me talking between overs,” Manzoor said. “I enjoyed batting with him. As a senior player he did a good job to ensure that I was comfortable in the middle.”

Ninguém poderia sequer admitir que haja esse tipo de coisa entre o presidente Carlos Eduardo e o presidente do Flamengo, mas acho que mais do que isso, eu sempre defendi que os clubes são adversários dentro de campo, mas devem ser aliados em vários aspectos fora de campo e tem interesses comuns, responsabilidades comuns. As torcidas, por exemplo, que de vez em quando, se é que a gente pode chamar de torcida, mas desordeiros de parte a parte que se enfrentam, muitas vezes podem ser levados por frases mal colocadas, às vez.

No lado Alvinegro, Carlos Eduardo Pereira manteve o clima amistoso e também deixou claro que não há nenhum clima ruim na relação entre os dois. Algumas provocações têm marcado o encontro das equipes, mas o presidente do Botafogo garantiu que o principal objetivo é acabar com a violência no futebol, trazendo de volta as famílias para os estádios.

Quero mais uma vez frisar o que eu tenho dito em outras ocasiões no sentido de que o fato de termos, eu e o Eduardo, opiniões institucionais distintas, em momento nenhum isso significa que existe uma hostilidade pessoal. Isso é muito importante frisar e que não passa por nenhum de nós no sentido de que alguém vá admitir qualquer tipo de violência e que nossas intervenções tem sido no sentido de que o futebol seja de paz e harmonia e que os estádios sejam os locais onde famílias se reúnem.

Sobre as brigas entre os torcedores, Carlos Eduardo Pereira falou sobre a ligação entre o clube e as organizadas e garantiu que a partida de domingo será segura e organizada.

– Acho que pouquíssimos dirigentes apoiam torcida organizada. Os clubes estão em um grau de transparência em que você não pode fazer pagamentos que depois você não tenha que prestar contas ao seu conselho fiscal, aos poderes internos do clube. O que se vê, é que antes de toda grande partida, e vamos ter um clássico no próximo domingo, estarão os estafes dos dos clubes sentados com a federação, com o GEPE e com todos os envolvidos na organização dessa partida.

Bandeira de Mello também comentou o assunto.

– O ideal seria a gente poder voltar àquela situação das organizadas que começaram em 60, que também eram totalmente independente dos clubes.
Essas brigas de torcida organizada muitas vezes não tem nada a ver com futebol. Muitas vezes eu vejo reportagem que mostram que os torcedores fazem isso pelo prazer de brigar e de enfrentar os outros. Muitas vezes, após os jogos, eles marcam na estação de trem a quilômetros de distância, ali já não é mais futebol.

Há exatos 75 anos, o Verdão entrou em campo pela primeira vez comoSociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, após enormes pressões durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial para que abandonasse o nome Palestra Itália. Tempos de intolerância contra o clube, mas de superação. Logo no primeiro jogo como Palmeiras, o time enfrentou o São Paulo pelo Campeonato Paulista e sagrou-se campeão, em episódio que ganhou o nome de Arrancada Heroica.Heitor, nosso personagem, tinha 14 anos e estava na arquibancada do Pacaembu. O LANCE! descobriu o torcedor e o levou ao estádio, na última segunda-feira, para recordar a passagem épica. E seus olhos brilharam quando passou do portão.

– O tempo podia voltar, eu era tão jovem… Vocês nem tinham nascido!

Morador de São Paulo (SP), Heitor nasceu em 12 de abril de 1928 e recebeu este nome em homenagem a Heitor Marcelino Domingues, maior artilheiro do Palmeiras, com 310 gols em 360 jogos entre 1916 e 1931. Vendedor aposentado, ele é sócio do Verdão desde 1941 e até hoje frequenta o clube. Descendente de italianos e espanhóis, se apaixonou pelo Palestra Itália logo na infância. Esteve no primeiro jogo do Pacaembu, Palestra 6 x 2 Coritiba, em 28 de abril de 1940, e dois anos depois foi testemunha da Arrancada Heroica. Na última segunda, Heitor voltou a sentir o clima de 75 anos atrás, sentado na arquibancada do Pacaembu. Ele recordou que 1942 foi um ano complicado:

– O país era comandado por Getúlio Vargas. Era uma ditadura. Eles queriam que o Palestra Itália trocasse de nome, porque o Brasil colocou, em 42, a Itália como país inimigo na Segunda Guerra. Houve uma reunião no clube (em março de 1942) e o nome foi alterado para Palestra de São Paulo, mas também não foi aceito pelo governo. E Palestra é um nome de origem grega! Depois virou Palmeiras (em 14 de setembro de 1942). O primeiro jogo depois da mudança era contra o São Paulo, e eles estavam preparando uma vaia enorme.

Uma portaria homologada no dia 11 de março de 1942, sob decreto de número 4.166, determinava que os bens pertencentes a italianos, alemães e japoneses, tanto pessoas físicas quanto jurídicas, poderiam ser confiscados e empregados pelo governo brasileiro para compensar os prejuízos resultantes de atos de agressão praticados pelos países em guerra contra o Brasil. Segundo historiadores palmeirenses, o São Paulo iniciou uma campanha tratando o Palestra como uma equipe inimiga da nação, com o objetivo de captar o patrimônio do clube – oEstádio Palestra Itália era um dos mais modernos do Brasil. Também de acordo comhistoriadores palmeirenses, o São Paulo não aceitou a mudança dePalestra Itália para Palestra de São Paulo, pedindo retaliações ao clube. Ao Verdão, restou trocar para Palmeiras e evitar perdas.

Foi uma grande coincidência enfrentar o São Paulo logo no primeiro jogo após a mudança de nome- lembrou Heitor, depois detalhando a entrada do time no jogo da Arrancada. Os jogadores do Verdão, cientes do cenário hostil prometido pela torcida do São Paulo,surgiram no gramado com uma bandeira do Brasil, como demonstração de patriotismo:

– Tinham umas 60 mil pessoas aqui no Pacaembu. Quando o Palmeiras entrou em campo com a bandeira do Brasil, todo mundo teve que aplaudir.Não sei quem teve esta ideia, mas fez toda a diferença – destacou Heitor Janeiro.

A ideia foido capitão Adalberto Mendes, militar sergipano que se sensibilizou com a luta do Palmeiras e virou vice-presidente do clube na época. Adalberto não só deixou a sugestão, como entrou em campo fardado junto ao time para impor respeito diante da torcida. A foto deste momento entrou para a história.

O Palmeiras seguiu valente quando a bola rolou. Se ganhasse, seria campeão paulista. E a caminhada brilhante, feita apesar de todas as dificuldades, foi coroada com um merecido 3 a 1. A partida corria bem até os 19 minutos do segundo tempo. Então, o são-paulino Virgilio deu um carrinho violento, cometendo pênalti, e foi expulso. Indignados, os tricolores se recusaram a jogar o restante do duelo e ficaram parados no campo. O árbitro esperou até os 45 minutos e encerrou o jogo. Heitor recorda que a torcida alviverde, em êxtase, começou a cantar “Fujão! Fujão!” para o São Paulo. Um grito para lavar a alma.

– O pessoal chamou o São Paulo de “fujão”. Confesso que não me lembro se gritei… Mas eu era jovem, devo ter gritado também (risos). Todo mundo gritou – disse Heitor Janeiro, que se delicia com o final feliz até hoje:

– Foi um jogo que me marcou muito. No começo, nãogostamos da mudança do nome, por sermos descendentes de italianos. Mas depois acostumamos tanto com o nome Palmeiras que passou batido. Agora, nem me acostumaria de novo com Palestra. Então é Palmeiras mesmo! E eu vi esse primeiro passo.

FAMÍLIA DE ÁRBITROS

A família de Heitor é ligada ao futebol, já que o pai dele e os tios eram árbitros. Os Janeiro eram representados no apito e, curiosamente, o juiz que comandou a partida no dia 20 de setembro de 1942 também levava o sobrenome:

– Eram três irmãos: Antonio, Dino e Artur Janeiro. Este Janeiro que apitou este jogo aí, Jaime Janeiro Rodrigues, não era parente nosso. O meu pai apitou muitos jogos, do Corinthians, no Rio de Janeiro…

A paixão pelo Palmeiras gerou até brigas dentro da família após um clássico contra o Corinthians, em 1939, na Fazendinha, pelo Campeonato Paulista.

– Teve um jogo que o meu tio apitou entre Palestra e Corinthians que foi 3 a 3 e o Zalli, ponta-esquerda do Palmeiras, fez um gol de cabeça. Seria o quarto, mas meu tio anulou e quando chegou em casa a minha tia, que era palmeirense, xingou ele – recorda Heitor Janeiro, que tinha 11 anos na época.

‘JEITINHO’ PARA VER O PALESTRA

Durante a infância, Heitor conviveu bastante com os tios que o levavam para os jogos do Palestra Itália no Parque Antártica. O problema é que naquele tempo criança não podia frequentar jogos noturnos, mas a família encontrou uma maneira inusitada para que o pequeno palestrino fosse ao estádio.

– Fui criado com a minha tia e meu tio, que eram fanáticos pelo Palestra. Então eu ficava no meio deles e o meu tio me escondia com o sobretudo. Eram seis pés (risos). Quando percebiam, já estávamos dentro do estádio.

AMIZADE COM ÍDOLO

Frequentador do clube social até hoje, Heitor fez várias amizades e uma delas é especial. O torcedor que viu tantas vezes Oberdan Cattani defender o gol do time do coração virou amigo do ex-goleiro, quando ambos tinham mais de 70 anos de idade. Oberdan morreu aos 95 anos, em junho de 2014, pouco antes do centenário do Palmeiras. Atualmente não há ex-jogadores do Palestra vivos.

O Palmeiras já homenageou seis jogadores com bustos e Heitor teve a chance de ver todos em ação: Waldemar Fiúme, Junqueira, Oberdan, Ademir da Guia, Dudu e Marcos. Ele tem sua preferência sobre qual foi o melhor:

– Os que eu mais gostavam eram Waldemar Fiúme e Ademir da Guia, mas o Oberdan foi muito meu amigo. O Waldemar era o Pai da Bola.

وكان جانج غاب عن فوز الهلال أمام الخليج بسبب عدم اكتمال جاهزيته البدنية بحسب الخطة العلاجية والتأهيلية، حيث عانى من إصابة في الفخذ في الفوز الودي أمام نوتنجهام فورست الإنجليزي في معسكر برمنجهام.

وذكرت صحيفة “الرياضية” السعودية أن اللاعب الكوري الجنوبي سوف يتواجد في التدريبات الجماعية للهلال بداية من يوم الجمعة القادم.

وينتظر أن يكون جانج هيون سو جاهز للتواجد في بعثة الهلال المسافرة إلى الدوحة من أجل مواجهة الزمالك في كأس لوسيل في التاسع من سبتمبر المقبل.

وينوي رامون دياز الاعتماد على جانج بصفة أساسية في خط الدفاع في مواجهة حامل لقب الدوري المصري في آخر موسمين.
