Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon has indisputably been one of their standout performers so far this season, but on Thursday evening he endured a rare night to forget.

Jose Mourinho’s side defeated Royal Antwerp to leapfrog them into first place in Group J, meaning they’ll be seeded for the Europa League round of 32.

Whilst Spurs were victorious in north London, it wasn’t the most thrilling, entertaining or even best display and that much was summed up by the Spaniard’s performance.

Valued at €70m (£64m) by CIES, Reguilon was one of the few who kept his starting place from Sunday’s win over arch-rivals Arsenal, though by half-time, he was hauled off by the Portuguese boss.

Indeed, he received the lowest rating of any Spurs player (6.5) and was awfully lightweight in possession.

Per SofaScore, Reguilon won just 33% of his duels, lost the ball eight times and made just five passes. Even Joe Hart recorded more touches than the 23-year-old despite playing between the sticks, a role that shouldn’t see him more involved than the industrious left wing-back.

The Evening Standard graded him a five out of ten, claiming that Regulion “didn’t get forward enough” before he was replaced at half-time.

Whilst some will believe that the decision was down to keeping an eye on Crystal Palace this weekend, the former Real Madrid ace was still woefully poor for perhaps the very first time this season, and it would have left his manager fuming.

Reguilon has been a popular figure on and off the pitch as football.london’s Alasdair Gold revealed earlier in the season that “everyone loves him” in training whilst the £25m signing has quickly become a fan-favourite with supporters.

With Ben Davies pulling off an impressive display at left centre-back and then at full-back, it could give Mourinho plenty to ponder in terms of team selection, especially when coming up against Wilfried Zaha and then Mo Salah.

The Welshman would offer a more defensively-sound presence, that’s for sure.

وقال فان دايك في تصريحات لشبكة “بين سبورتس” القطرية: “كانت مباراة رائعة للغاية، أعتقد أنها كانت قوية بالنسبة لكلا الجانبين، كانت لدينا لحظات جيدة، حارس مرماهم قدم أداءً جيدًا رغم الخسارة، من وجهة نظري”.

وأضاف: “كانت مباراة جيدة جدًا، حققنا شباكًا نظيفة، وكان لدينا أداء جيد، وسجلنا أهدافًا جيدة، أشياء يمكن البناء عليها بكل تأكيد”.

وواصل: “آرسنال يلعب كرة قدم ويحاول اللعب من الخلف لذا عليك الركض كثيرًا، ولكن إذا فعلت ذلك واستعدت الكرة، ستكون المساحات موجودة، أعتقد أننا استغلينا ذلك بشكل مثالي في بعض الأحيان”.

وأردف: “عدم الخسارة في ملعبنا؟ حسنًا، دعنا نستمر في ذلك، أليس كذلك؟ أنا لا أنظر إلى هذه الإحصائيات، من الواضح أنني قرأت هذه الإحصائيات لأن الناس ذكروها لي ولكني أحاول فقط الفوز في كل مباراة”.

واستكمل: “إنها كرة القدم، أي شيء يمكن أن يحدث، يمكنك أن تخسر، يمكنك الفوز، واليوم فزنا، الآن نستعد لدوري أبطال أوروبا يوم الأربعاء أمام بورتو”.

واختتم: “آرسنال كان في وضع جيد، فازوا بمبارياتهم أمام واتفورد وبيرنلي ونورويتش، من الواضح أنها مباريات صعبة، ولكن آرسنال يجب عليه الفوز بتلك المباريات، لم يكن قد واجهنا، لعبنا على الأرض ونحن خصم مختلف”.

It’s now been close to a year since Stewart Donald first claimed he’d look to sell Sunderland but we’re not really any closer to reaching a conclusion.

It was reported last month that the Oxford-born businessman had agreed a deal with Juan Sartori and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus but evidently, it’s not been wrapped up yet.

Another interested party is Rich Energy CEO, William Storey.

The former Haas F1 investor has been very outspoken about his desires to buy the football club and after a long-winded interview with The Chronicle, it appears as though he’s already got plans in place for what he’d do at the Stadium of Light.

You have to credit it him because it genuinely looks as though he’s got Sunderland’s best interests at heart. However, all of his words and planning could be thrown out the window if it’s Dreyfus who ends up with the keys to the Stadium of Light.

One strategy Storey wants to implement if he walks through the door is something that falls into recruitment. He admitted last weekend that he wants to bring as many as five players currently at Premier League clubs to the north-east.

Of course, they won’t be established individuals but instead players under the age of 23 that reside in academy sides. Now, this may not sound like the smartest of ideas on paper given their relative inexperience but when it comes to the financial side of things, it’s incredibly cunning.

Sunderland are currently restricted by the EFL’s new salary cap – something the club voted against before it was introduced – and thus, they won’t be able to do too much in the January window.

However, as Storey concludes, these younger players are on smaller wages and would be easier to bring to the Mackems.

If Sunderland aren’t going to sell Aiden McGeady – someone on £31k-per-week – they will need all the financial help they can get. Of course, Storey would bring new investment with him but that’s not going to stop the club from crossing the line in terms of the salary restrictions.

The Black Cats may need to get rid of a few players but it is evident Storey knows the context of the club and how they can get around it.

“Academy players are on much lower money, that’s number one. The average Academy player in the Premier League wouldn’t be breaking the salary cap,” he stated.

It’s very shrewd and Sunderland could well give themselves a giant push towards promotion if they implement this successfully.

Bruno Henrique se tornou titular da equipe após a saída de Ralf, que foi para o futebol chinês. Agora, ele quer usar os primeiros jogos da temporada para se consolidar no time.

Liverpool are reportedly one of the sides interested in signing David Alaba from Bayern Munich in the summer when his contract with the Bundesliga side expires and if his recent performance against Mainz is anything to go by, he would be a superb signing for the Reds.

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano in The Guardian, the Reds are pushing hard to sign the Austrian international this summer, although Real Madrid are currently leading the race, as they seek a replacement for the seemingly outgoing Sergio Ramos.

Whilst Romano suggests a January move is unlikely, which is a blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side due to their current injury crisis in defence, they should still be doing everything they can to sign the £58.5 million-rated centre-back on a Bosman transfer next summer.

Alaba’s superb ability on the ball was exemplified by his excellent performance in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win against Mainz recently, with the 28-year-old helping to build attacks from the back with his world-class passing ability.

As per SofaScore, Alaba would have 108 touches of the ball against Mainz, completing an impressive 97 passes from the 105 he attempted, resulting in a pass accuracy rate of 92%.

He is also willing to take a risk with his long balls, something Liverpool have arguably been lacking in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, and eight of the 12 he attempted during the 90 minutes would find a Bayern Munich shirt.

Although Hans Dieter-Flick’s side found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, this was more to do with Jerome Boateng having a nightmare than Alaba being poor defensively, as they fought back to win 5-2 once Boateng was replaced by Niklas Sule at half-time.

During Pep Guardiola’s time managing the Austrian international, he was full of praise for him, saying:

“He’s an unbelievable talent. He can play anywhere. He’s quick, good in the build-up and always 100 per cent focused. Without doubt he can be one of the best centre-backs in the world. He’s a huge gift for Bayern.”

Therefore, with Alaba’s versatility and experience, he would be a world-class addition to Klopp’s side in the summer and would work superbly alongside the more physically dominating Van Dijk.

– Sou o que mais sofreu gol, mas um dos que mais jogou. E o único que sofre gol é goleiro, não tem como trabalhar com essa estatística. Eu sempre deixo os números de lado. A minha preocupação maior é orientar a defesa para que o time possa jogar compacto como tem atuado. Vamos ver o que o Bauza vai passar para a equipe para fazermos um bom jogo e sairmos com a vitória – salientou o arqueiro são-paulino.

O goleiro pode não gostar de números, mas nem todos estão contra o São Paulo. O início desta temporada, por exemplo, já possui um alento. Com apenas dois gols sofridos em cinco jogos, a defesa tem o melhor início de ano desde 1999.

É um início promissor principalmente no primeiro ano sem o capitão Ceni. A defesa tem se saído bem, mesmo com baixas. Hoje à tarde, Breno e Lugano seguirão fora do time. O uruguaio ainda treina para ficar em condições de reestrear. Rodrigo Caio e Lucão devem formar a zaga titular. É a mesma que iniciou o 6 a 1 no ano passado.

Neste ponto, como Denis gosta, é melhor esquecer o passado. Domingo é dia de escrever uma nova história. Tudo começa lá atrás.
