Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was reported that Chelsea are eyeing up a move for Wilfried Zaha.

The Blues are currently under a transfer ban, although the Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear their appeal on November 20th – if they get the ban overturned, Frank Lampard could have a transfer kitty as large as £150m.

The west Londoners will also target Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell and RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner as part of the big-money dash, but the Eagles will presumably not want to lose their talisman midway through the season.

Zaha is yet to score this term and has just one assist to his name in 11 Premier League appearances, although after notching ten goals and ten assists in the previous campaign, he is still without a doubt Palace’s main danger man.

That is perhaps why Everton offered as much as £70m + two players for the Ivorian back in the summer window, but the south Londoners managed to resist advances for their asset – it now looks as if the transfer saga is set to have another chapter written in January.

Pep Guardiola is far from a stranger to gargantuan fixtures but the trip to Anfield this weekend has thrown up a set of difficult circumstances.

The legendary manager has won consecutive league titles in Germany, England and Spain and has even dethroned some of the greats like Sir Alex Ferguson.

Just a few years after his playing career had finished, the Spaniard battled with Ferguson in two Champions League finals and tika-taka’d his way past a legendary Manchester United side on both occasions. These famous wins allowed Guardiola to secure a treble in 2009 and received the label as “the best team ever” in 2011 from his nemesis.

All of this came before he even had a chance to dwell on the fact he had just turned 40. Now, eight years on and after an unthinkably spectacular 198 points from two seasons, Guardiola now faces arguably his biggest individual test since arriving in Manchester.

This Liverpool side may indeed be the best team the 48-year-old has faced down the years, especially as the clash is at the formidable dome that is Anfield. Most seasons at Barcelona, Real Madrid struggled to get near Guardiola’s dominant side, conceding just one league title to them in four years. Then, in Germany, he comfortably bagged seven major trophies for Bayern Munich without breaking a sweat.

Now, against Jurgen Klopp, Guardiola finally faces a test he does not often see, as he chases a team and must win to perhaps avoid failure. Liverpool are arguably in the best shape they have been in during the Premier League era, having bagged 97 points and a Champions League title last season.

Defensively, Liverpool beat City right now by conceding one less goal, whilst the Reds’ front three is arguably the best in Europe.

But even with Liverpool’s imperious and relentless form in mind City would normally be fancied to come away with three points. The fact Ederson has been ruled out of the clash, however, seems to have swung the pendulum towards Merseyside.

Down the years, despite his unrivalled success across three countries, Guardiola has taken charge of teams already set to dominate. Now, this Liverpool side certainly has the capabilities to surpass what the former Barcelona man has done at City.

Guardiola is not familiar with witnessing a side get so close to him and perhaps be even better than his squad.

Should he beat Liverpool at Anfield, it will have to go down as one of his best ever victories.

Tottenham Hotspur could be about to sack Mauricio Pochettino.

Numerous reports over the last week have suggested that the Argentine is running out of time in north London, with The Daily Mail claiming it is a matter of when, rather than if, he leaves.

The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, have claimed it would cost chairman Daniel Levy £12.5m to sack Pochettino.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League, 11 points off the top four, ahead of this weekend’s derby against West Ham United.

Football FanCast sources understand that he has told Levy that he does not intend to resign and has essentially intimated that he will have to be sacked if he is to be removed from his post.

FFC has previously reported that the groundwork and due diligence is already being done ahead of his potential departure and that Julian Nagelsmann, the RB Leipzig manager, is the club’s top choice to step in and take the reins.

Contact has also been initiated with Jose Mourinho’s camp, given that the former Manchester United manager is currently out of work.

However, one has to ask whether axing Pochettino would be the right thing to do.

“I think it’s probably about time for Tottenham to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

“They can’t even put this poor run down to being unlucky, they’ve simply not been good enough and the blame has to fall on the manager.

“This is a very talented group of players, and Pochettino simply isn’t getting the best out of them anymore. £12.5m is a lot of money, but a season without European football could be even more costly for Spurs at this point.

“Tottenham have a lot to be grateful towards the Argentine for, but I think his race is run at the London club – Levy should call time on the former Southampton man’s Spurs career.”

Matt Dawson

“After the 7-2 hammering against Bayern and a defeat to Brighton, I thought a change of manager could be exactly what Spurs needed to revitalise and freshen the direction the club was heading in. However, at a fee of £12.5m, it would be a costly decision to make and I’m not so sure whether they’d be able to find a better manager out there.

“Levy has his eyes on Nagelsmann but there are bigger issues at Spurs than the manager. This squad is in dire need of a fresh lick of paint with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweirald and Jan Vertonghen out of contract next summer.

“Pochettino has guided his team to just three wins in the league this and that isn’t good enough but if Spurs got rid of the Argentine at the first sight of trouble, it would be a mistake. He took them to a Champions League final not too long ago and I’m fairly certain that this is only a blip. Results do need to pick up but sacking him now would be pointless.

“Spurs are better off sticking than twisting on this occasion.”

“This would be the worst £12.5m that Tottenham have ever spent – an even poorer use of their finances than signing Vincent Janssen. 

“Pochettino is by no means the problem at Spurs. While Tanguy Ndombele was a real statement of intent by Daniel Levy, the former Southampton boss simply hasn’t been backed by his chairman in the areas that need bolstering most, such as at full-back, particularly after Kieran Trippier’s sale to Atletico Madrid.

“Despite reaching the Champions League final last season, this Spurs team is very much going through a transitional period, and when the north Londoners come out the other side of this, they will be kicking themselves if they’ve parted ways with Pochettino because of it – they would find it hard to appoint a boss of similar pedigree.”

David Sullivan has thrown his support behind West Ham United Manuel Pellegrini in a period where the manager needs to turn things around, as reported by Football Insider.

The report suggests that there have been no moves to line up a replacement manager for the Chilean, with it also being claimed that he will definitely be in charge against Chelsea.

There is currently plenty of frustration being aimed towards him and the decisions he has made, but keeping Pellegrini in the hot seat is the correct decision for the club – for now at least.

One of the biggest problems facing the club at the moment is their goalkeeper situation, as Roberto has been calamitous since coming in for Lukasz Fabianski, conceding 16 goals in eight games.

No managerial change is going to impact the fact that the goalkeeper is performing below par, so anybody coming in would have exactly the same big issue as Pellegrini.

The most they could do in this regard is use David Martin or Joseph Anang instead, though that would still not be ideal for an incoming boss.

This may not be the only issue facing the men in claret and blue, with another example being how Sebastien Haller has been isolated, with football.london claiming this is a problem that has got progressively worse.

However, Pellegrini should be given the opportunity to turn things around with Fabianski in goal, especially after he was given so much backing during the summer transfer window.

If nothing else, waiting until the Poland international is back between the sticks would give the next manager the best conditions to get a positive start, which would give them a better chance of building some momentum.

Leeds United have struggled against two poor teams in recent weeks as they’ve relied on late winners to get past Luton and Reading despite the fact that both clubs are sitting within two points of the relegation zone.

United play against another struggling side on Saturday as Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough outfit visit Elland Road.

This one should be a much easier one for Leeds to handle after Phil Hay’s comments on the current state of affairs at Middlesbrough.

The journalist was hosting a Q&A session on The Athletic, and understandably he was asked his thoughts on this weekend’s clash.

“Should be a home win. I’ve looked at Boro and they’ve got problems. Howson was playing a back three last weekend. Their pressing and their tracking of runners is poor, they’ve been easy to play through and they’re narrow at the back. Leeds need to take advantage.”

Could be a big win

If Hay is right in his summary that Middlesbrough’s pressing and tracking of runners is poor this could be a big win for Leeds.

If the Whites can play through Boro’s press with ease and counter-press them effectively they could have a plethora of chances presented to them, and even the worst finisher in the world would be able to make a few of those count.

Patrick Bamford, of course, went ten games without finding the back of the net but he’s now bagged two in two while also having another strike actually taken away from him as it hit a Luton defender.

It seems as if Boro are weak in two areas you really don’t want to be lacking in against United, and this could be a match made in hell for Woodgate’s side.

With Bamford back in form, they could struggle even more.

In other news, Leeds have been handed a triple transfer blow by Phil Hay.
