Nottingham Forest captain Michael Dawson has compared his current boss Sabri Lamouchi to the one that let him depart Tottenham Hotspur after nearly ten years at the club.

What’s he said?

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino allowed the popular centre-back to join Hull City despite holding the captaincy in North London.

After four seasons at the KCOM Stadium, Dawson returned to the Midlands to the side that gave him his first taste of professional football, Forest.

Lamouchi was surprisingly appointed manager of the club just minutes after the sudden departure of Martin O’Neill and the 35-year-old, who has started every Championship game this season, has said the Algerian boss reminds him of Pochettino.

Dawson said:

“I had a short spell with Mauricio at Spurs before I left, and yes, his thoroughness, his way of playing…

“That takes time. You’ve got to get the right players and the right blend – he’s doing that.

“He’s great to work with – his energy, his willingness to learn the league.

“I’m loving working with him.”

Have Forest finally found their man?

Any form of reasonable success at the City Ground has long escaped them – their last foray into the playoffs was back in 2011 whilst the club haven’t featured in the top-flight since 1999.

Lamouchi is their fourth manager since the start of the 2017 season having had Mark Warburton, Aitor Karanka and O’Neill all chance their arm in the east Midlands.

The last manager to enjoy a spell that was longer than just a year was Billy Davies between 2009 and 2011 – the man to give them that playoff season.

They’ve had 12 managers since then, including their current boss.

The Reds have been in desperate need of some sort of stability, and Dawson’s comments about the 47-year-old offers great encouragement considering the flack the club received following his peculiar appointment.

Ensuring he’s given time and that they continue this season’s run of form, Forest have every chance of a more successful campaign this season.

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

It’s been two years since Dani Ceballos originally joined Real Madrid from Real Betis. It was a big transfer for a young and talented midfielder who had plenty to prove in a much bigger team.

But somehow, the now 23-year-old never truly found his footing and in the last summer transfer window he was shipped off to Arsenal on loan.

And, since leaving the Spanish capital, something has clicked and the young Spaniard has been enjoying himself in north London.

So far, he’s played four games for Unai Emery’s Arsenal in the new 2019/20 Premier League campaign, starting two of those and coming on as a substitute in the other two. But he’s been extremely proficient, too.

In those four games, he already tallied two assists and averaged 1.3 key passes, 1.8 dribbles, 86.7% passing accuracy and even 1.3 shots per game. These are impressive stats that illuminate his ascendancy since landing in England, and his dynamic-shifting impact from the bench in the north London derby also proved his appetite for the big occasion, as he recorded two shots, two key passes and 89.5% passing accuracy in an electric cameo.

Just for comparison’s sake, in 2018/19 for Real Madrid, he averaged one key pass, 0.6 dribbles, 92.6% passing accuracy and one shot per game. Granted, that’s over a much bigger sample of games but Ceballos is definitely off to a great start at the Emirates.

Particularly impressive was his first Premier League start against Burnley. In that game, he tallied two assists, three shots, three key passes, 90% passing accuracy and a total of four dribbles. By anyone’s standards, he was Arsenal’s top performer on the day.

He may not have found his groove at Real Madrid but this loan spell seems to be doing him the world of good thus far.

If he continues progressing and improving steadily, Zinedine Zidane might be looking at a serious reinforcement to restore to his ranks in 2020.

Maybe a spark of creativity and youth would do the current Real Madrid a lot of good.

Only time will tell, though.

Manchester United fans have lavished praise on Scott McTominay for the midfielder’s performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.

The 22-year-old has taken on an important role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first XI this season – starting all five of the club’s Premier League games.

According to WhoScored, McTominay had a pass success rate of 82% against Leicester, whilst he won three aerials, two tackles and had four successful dribbles during his 90 minutes on the field.

It was not exactly a vintage performance from United against Brendan Rodgers’s side, but it was a very important three points.

And a number of the club’s supporters have taken to social media to lavish praise on McTominay for his strong showing at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will now open their Europa League group campaign against Astana on Thursday ahead of a trip to West Ham United in the league next weekend.

Many Leeds United supporters have been reacting on social media, after Leeds Live claimed that Mateusz Klich and Luke Ayling are set to sign new contracts at the Elland Road outfit imminently.

The Whites have recently tied Kalvin Phillips down to a new five-year contract, and agreed terms with Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas to pen new five and four-year deals respectively.

Klich is expected to follow his teammates in putting pen to paper in the coming days, and commit his long-term future to the Championship outfit currently topping the second-tier table on goal difference over Swansea City.

Poland international Klich has featured in all of the eight league games played so far this term (WhoScored), and has contributed one goal while assisting the opener at home to Nottingham Forest before Sabri Lamouchi’s men later equalised.

He had a chance to double his personal goal tally for the term from the penalty spot on Saturday when Phillip Cocu’s Derby County travelled to Elland Road, but rolled the ball the wrong side of Kelle Roos’ post before the Rams pulled level in stoppage-time.

Leeds are keen to cement Klich’s place in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans with a new deal, as his current terms are due to expire in the summer of 2020, and doubt remains over an alleged 12-month option to extend.

The West Yorkshire outfit are also said to be in talks with Ayling over a new contract, and an announcement of his continued future should follow that of Klich’s, as negotiations are believed to be progressing positively.

Ayling is yet to feature for the Leeds first-team so far this season as a result of his ankle surgery carried over the summer break, but continued to step up his rehabilitation process in the Under 23s last week as he completed 70 minutes for Carlos Corberan’s junior side against Hull City (Yorkshire Evening Post).

The London-born 28-year-old made 42 appearances for Leeds across all competitions last season (TransferMarkt), scoring twice and assisting six goals all in the regular Championship campaign.

Allan Saint-Maximin may have scored six goals and registered five assists for OGC Nice last season, but the Frenchman’s name is arguably more recognised for him sporting a Gucci headband. If ever you needed a snapshot of modern footballers, that right there is about as good as you’re going to get.

Despite arriving at St. James’ Park this summer with a reputation for annoying his former managers – just ask Patrick Vieira about how much he infuriated the Arsenal legend – the 22-year-old has shown plenty of promise with his limited minutes on the pitch. All 57 of them to be precise.

The winger has had his start to life on Tyneside disrupted by niggling injuries, but in the very short time the Magpies faithful have laid eyes on him, there is certainly a sense of promise about what he could bring to the side. In fact, just take a look at his electric 18 minute cameo against Brighton on Saturday.

The Frenchman came on to the pitch in the 72nd minute, with the Magpies looking devoid of any real creativity or ideas. Both Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu did their usual huffing and puffing without blowing the Brighton house down, and Steve Bruce’s introduction of his summer signing injected some life into the team and the supporters.

With one of his first touches of the ball, Saint-Maximin skipped past a couple of challenges in his own half before terrorising the Seagulls with his incredible pace and direct dribbling. It lifted the Magpies faithful off their seats and added an urgency to the side’s style of play. By the end of the game, he had completed three successful dribbles and delivered a key pass too.

For all of Almiron and Atsu’s qualities, the duo don’t possess the sheer unpredictability Saint-Maximin brings. He commits opposition defenders by sizing them up and then quickly beating them on the outside. When you have strikers like Joelinton and Andy Carroll in your ranks, you need wide-men who can take players on before delivering a cross into the box. The 22-year-old does that with regularity.

If the France U21 international is fully-fit, Bruce must have no hesitation in throwing caution to the wind and unleashing his winger. Gucci headband and all.
