Celtic are keen to appoint a permanent successor to Martin O’Neill and now look to be well down the road in that regard, as fresh details over Wilfried Nancy’s arrival and potential backroom team emerge.

The Bhoys enjoyed a productive weekend of Scottish Premiership action, even if it was a little fortuitous, claiming a dramatic last-gasp victory over St Mirren before Heart of Midlothian lost out at Aberdeen to narrow the gap at the top of the table.

Four points separate the top two heading into a busy schedule, with Celtic holding the advantage of a crucial game in hand against Dundee United days after they collide with the Edinburgh side in a blockbuster clash at Parkhead in a couple of weeks.

From a position of real uncertainty, the Bhoys have edged their way back into title contention and will hope to capitalise as Hearts continue to falter, albeit O’Neill made it clear after their win in Paisley that he isn’t sure how much longer he will be in interim charge alongside Shaun Maloney.

He said: “There’s relief as much as anything else, but you enjoy winning football matches – that’s what it’s about. It keeps confidence alive as much as anything else and keeps momentum going.

“At this minute, I haven’t heard anything more. I would reckon I would probably be on the plane for Rotterdam and maybe not much longer. If the board announce a new manager in the couple of days, I will walk into the sunset.”

O’Neill looks likely to be in charge for Celtic’s trip to face Feyenoord on Thursday in the Europa League and could be in situ for their match against Hibernian on Sunday. However, it doesn’t look like he will be sticking around for long after that.

Previously, it became clear that Columbus Crew manager Wilfried Nancy is set to take over at Celtic after his side bowed out of the MLS Cup playoffs, though there has since been quiet over the details of his arrival.

Now, PLZ Soccer report that Nancy is set to begin his journey at Parkhead from the start of December, if not before then, with the Bhoys’ home clash against Dundee on the third day of the month likely to be his first game in charge.

Four of Nancy’s own staff are set to take on new roles in Glasgow over the next week, should their contracts be signed off, with Dermot Desmond sparing no expense making the new boss feel at home in the face of recent fan pressure. Kwame Ampadu is likely to be one of the new faces following his work alongside the 48-year-old in the United States.

Before this tournament, Sri Lanka hadn’t played an international for four months; they prepared with domestic fixtures and games against youth teams.”Everyone knows the Australians are the best team and they have a very experienced side,” Athapaththu said. “In 2019 we played a series against them and I scored a century in Brisbane. After that we never played against Australia because of Covid and some other various reasons. So we missed playing against Australia.”We know we haven’t played international games during the past few months, but we played some domestic cricket. There are things that I cannot control as a captain but I’ll control my bat and ball. Our preparation is good, because we played some games against national youth teams.”Australia’s preparation, meanwhile, has been ideal. They won a hard-fought series in India in September and several of their players have gained exposure to Indian conditions through the WPL. They arrived in Colombo on Thursday afternoon, well in time to recover and prepare for Saturday.”It’s been good, positive vibes,” said opener Phoebe Litchfield when asked about the team’s mood following their journey from Indore. “Woke up this morning, hit the gym, got to the ground and hopefully have some food and get started into training. The commute was fine. It was pretty stock standard but the bodies feel great all around so we’re keen to play tomorrow.”Litchfield struck a 31-ball 45 against New Zealand to set the tone for Australia’s innings in Indore, but with conditions in Colombo unlikely to be as conducive to batting, she knows a more considered approach might be required.”I think we’ll see when we get out there,” Litchfield said. “I’m not going to swing from the limbs first ball. Going to assess conditions, see how it’s playing. And if we think it’s a 300 wicket, it’s a 300 wicket and we’ll play our way. But also know that we might have to adapt depending on the conditions that we face.Litchfield has played just the solitary match against Sri Lanka – a WT20I last year – but Australia know what to expect for the most part.”Their opening bowlers pose a threat but their spin attack is where their work gets done. 10-man Chelsea came the closest to beating Arteta’s side last weekend, taking a 1-0 lead through Trevoh Chalobah at Stamford Bridge, only for in-form makeshift number nine Mikel Merino to equalise with his 20th goal this calendar year.

Arsenal’s imperious early-season has been made all the more impressive when factoring in their extensive injury list this term.

Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard, Noni Madueke, William Saliba, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz have all been sidelined at various points, with Arteta doing very well to adjust.

In Havertz’s case, the £280,000-per-week star hasn’t played at all this season since Arsenal’s opening day win over Man United at Old Trafford.

The Germany international, after just coming back from a hamstring problem which kept him out for months at the back end of 2024/2025, sustained a knee injury against United, with Havertz hauled off after just half an hour.

Reports suggest that Havertz has impressed Arsenal rehabilitation staff with his recovery, but he still hasn’t been available since August.

Mikel Arteta without Kai Havertz for 'weeks' after Arsenal injury update

The 26-year-old was, at one point, contending to be fit for Arsenal’s 4-1 triumph over Tottenham in the North London derby (Standard Sport).

Havertz was seemingly on the verge of a return to the field, but according to Arteta in his latest pre-match press conference, it will now be ‘weeks’ before the attacker makes his long-awaited return.

News of this setback for Havertz comes as a blow for Arsenal, with Arteta yet to have the desired conundrum of choosing how to fit both him and Gyokeres into his new Arsenal system on a regular basis.

Unable to display his best throughout 2025 due to consistent injury problems, Arteta will be desperate to have Havertz available once again as soon as possible.

With both Gabriel and potentially Saliba unavailable for Brentford too, summer signings Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera will likely partner one another yet again tomorrow evening.

Former England batter Dawid Malan says he is looking for a “fresh challenge” after being released by Yorkshire following six seasons with the club.Malan, 38, came through at Middlesex before joining Yorkshire in 2020. He captained the club in the Blast last season, but despite leading the way with 365 runs at a strike rate of 156.65, could not prevent them from finishing second-bottom in the North Group.During his time at Headingley, Malan was Yorkshire’s second-leading run-scorer in T20, with 1642. He also scored 2014 runs at 54.43 in first-class cricket.”I have enjoyed six happy and successful seasons with Yorkshire, but feel now is the right time for the club to make a fresh start,” Malan said. “I am grateful to the general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton and head coach Anthony McGrath for allowing me to seek a new challenge elsewhere.”Malan, who last played for England at the 2023 ODI World Cup, has extensive experience of the global T20 circuit, featuring in the PSL, BPL, SA20 and, most recently, the Nepal Premier League.He has also started to explore a media career, commentating on BBC radio during the summer.Hamilton said: “Dawid has been a consistent run-scorer across all formats, and will always be welcome at Headingley. وخضع الحكام والمساعدون لأول مرة لاختبار “الفواصل الزمنية” أسوة بالحكام المرشحين لكأس العالم 2026، وهو جزء من اختبارات اللياقة البدنية الصارمة، التي يخضع لها الحكام، ويُعرف باختبار الجري السريع المتكرر. 

ويجب على الحكام إنهاء سباق جري لمسافة معينة (75 مترًا حسب البروتوكول) خلال 15 ثانية، تليها فترات راحة محددة للمشي، لتقييم قدرتهم على تحمل الجهد المتكرر وسرعة الاستشفاء في المباريات. 

وهذا يتطلب لياقة بدنية عالية جدًا، وظهر جميع الحكام والمساعدون بشكل مميز خلال الاختبار.

محمد صلاح يعيش فترة صعبة للغاية في مسيرته الكروية، وذلك في ظل ابتعاده عن المشاركة مع ليفربول في المباريات وخروجه من تشكيلة الريدز الأساسية.

وخرج محمد صلاح من قائمة ليفربول لمباراة إنتر ميلان، وذلك لحساب بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا يوم الأربعاء الماضي، بقرار فني من المدرب آرني سلوت.

وجاء استبعاد محمد صلاح بعد تصريحاته حول اعتراضه على جلوسه كبديل خلال الفترة الأخيرة مع ليفربول، وهاجم إدارة الريدز موضحًا أنه تم استخدامه ككبش فداء لتبرير سوء نتائج النادي الإنجليزي.

ويرى باركر في تصريحات نقلتها شبكة ليفربول إيكو، أن جناح ليفربول، فيديريكو كييزا، يستحق الفرصة وهو الأجدر باستبدال مكان محمد صلاح مع الريدز.

وقال باركر: “لا يمكنك السماح للاعب بالتصرف كما فعل محمد صلاح، لقد خذل زملاءه ولم يظهر أي احترام للنادي، يمتلك ليفربول لاعبين مثل فيديريكو كييزا، الذين كانوا ينتظرون الفرصة وسيغتنمون أي فرصة تتاح لهم”.

وأضاف باركر في حديثه: “كييزا يستحق هذه الفرصة، فهو لاعب مجتهد في مركز الجناح ويتحرك ذهابًا وإيابًا في الملعب، وفي كل مرة يكون فيها بالقرب من منطقة الجزاء يشكل تهديدًا، لن يسجل 25 هدفًا في الموسم، لكن ليفربول في وضعه الحالي يحتاج إلى لاعب مجتهد، خاصًة بعد رحيل لويس دياز في الصيف”.

واختتم باركر في حديثه عن محمد صلاح: “اتخذ آرني سلوت قراره، وبالنظر إلى أداء صلاح فهو لا يستحق اللعب أساسيًا، عندما تتاح لك الفرصة كما أتيحت لصلاح ليصاب بالغرور ولا يوجد من يوقفه، تكون النتيجة هي ما نراه يحدث الآن”.
