Alli shares Instagram snap enjoying his holiday with Sancho

[ad_pod ]

The season is over for both Dele Alli and Jadon Sancho, but the tandem have found a reason to link up off the pitch as the Englishman shared a holiday snap of the pair.

Tottenham’s star posted an

/By57CXCHbCG/?utm_source=ig_embed” data-lasso->Instagram picture showing his “link-up” with Borussia Dortmund’s wunderkind and the players will seemingly spend their time off together. It’s either that or, as some of the fans in the comments were quick to notice, Alli is playing the role of a superagent.

Alli has had a decent season with Spurs, at best. Despite his team reaching the final of the Champions League, the 23-year-old played a somewhat subpar role with five goals and three assists in the Premier League and only three assists in Europe.

Still, ever since he joined the club in 2015, he has been a constant figure in Spurs’ midfield. He has already accumulated 184 appearances for them and that number is surely only going to increase in the coming years. Will Sancho follow in his footsteps?

Rangers: Steven Gerrard is making the right career move remaining in Scotland

“I’m very happy here, it’s a privilege to be the Rangers manager. My focus is on the up and coming season.”

If there was ever a set of words Rangers fans wanted to hear more this summer, it was exactly what Steven Gerrard said above via Sky Sports News when asked about his future amid rumours from the Daily Record that the Gers boss was a target for Derby County should Frank Lampard leave this summer.

The manager-merry-go-round this summer has at times been more entertaining than the transfer market itself, with the aforementioned Lampard in line to return to Chelsea via the Evening Standard as well as the recent news of Rafa Benitez’s departure from Newcastle United via BBC Sport opening yet another vacant seat in the Premier League, yet Gerrard won’t be departing Rangers anytime soon, and we believe this is the best thing for his career at this moment in time.

The former Liverpool midfielder enjoyed a successful first season in professional management with the Gers, leading them to second in the Scottish Premiership table and bringing exciting, attacking football back to the blue side of Glasgow, and with an exciting crop of new players brought to the club and Celtic seemingly losing one of their key players in Kieran Tierney to Arsenal via BBC Sport, what reason does Gerrard have to leave?

Gerrard is leading a project at the club that can realistically take the Gers back to the top of Scottish football, and the manager knows this is what he is going to have to achieve before even thinking about a move back to England.

Rangers fans, can Gerrard take the club back to the top of Scottish football? Let us know!

Leeds fans react negatively to Harrison and White swoop

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been reacting negatively to the club’s first signings of the summer.

The Whites announced the loan signings of Ben White and Jack Harrison on Monday morning, but many were less than impressed with the announcement.

The Man City man has always been a polarising figure amongst the fanbase, and many supporters believe he still has to prove himself at the club.

White signs as somewhat of an unknown quantity, as he hasn’t played at Championship level before, and certain supporters weren’t happy with signing such an inexperienced player.

After it was announced that United have an option to make Harrison’s move permanent, one user replied that he hoped they don’t take up that option.

It remains to be seen how these two new signings will get on next season and if they can win the fans over, but the initial response from the supporters hasn’t been great.

Spurs fans urge club to keep Rose as he celebrates birthday

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have urged the club not to sell Danny Rose this summer.

The left-back celebrated his 29th birthday on Tuesday, following an exceptional season in north London.

Rose played a key role as Spurs reached the Champions League final and finished fourth in the Premier League in 2018/19.

He made a total of 37 appearances in all competitions and has again emerged as Spurs’ first-choice left-back.

The England international has claimed that he could leave the club in this transfer window, however, giving an interview stating that he has seen his own name linked with a departure.

Fans, though, want him to stick around, with Rose rediscovering his form under Mauricio Pochettino in one of the club’s finest seasons in recent memory.

And they have told the club that they had better not cash in on the former Leeds United defender in this transfer window.

Manchester United: Inter really do want Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan are to table their best offer possible in an attempt to secure Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku.

News emerged at the weekend that both clubs were prepared to sit down and discuss ‘face-to-face’ the possibility of Romelu Lukaku completing his Old Trafford exit, as per Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is said that the objective of the meeting is ‘closure’ – presumably to ensure what could be a lengthy and arduous process comes to an end as soon as possible thus allowing the two sides to prepare for their respective campaigns properly.

Gazzetta dello Sport go on to suggest that, within the week, Inter Milan and Beppe Marotta will ‘blitz’ the market and present Manchester United with an offer they hope will convince the Reds to release Lukaku.

The Belgian forward said that a move to Serie A would be a dream to Sky Italia back in April and did appear to lose his starting spot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer towards the end of last season, with Marcus Rashford largely operating as the central striker.

Harbouring players who have no desire to stay at the club would be a poor move on United’s part. Even if it means lowering their reported £75million asking price so Inter Milan have the means to pay.

Rumours have already surfaced that Solskjaer is chasing Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored 18 goals in 31 La Liga appearances last season, with Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervion going as far to say that the club have already agreed personal terms on the switch.

Crystal Palace fans split as Aston Villa spending spree continues

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans on Twitter are split after Premier League rivals Aston Villa look set to continue their big summer spending spree with moves for Bjorn Engels and Douglas Luiz.

While the Eagles’ transfer window has been anything but lively with goalkeeper Stephen Henderson the only arrival to date – and on a free – newly-promoted Villa have been going to town with the additions of Matt Targett, Jota, Ezri Konsa, Wesley, Kortney Hause, Anwar El Ghazi and Tyrone Mings, with the latter three joining on permanent deals following loan spells last term.

Now it appears as though Reims centre-back Engels and Manchester City midfielder Luiz are set to join them at Villa Park, with the duo set to cost £22m.

Given Palace have lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United and Michy Batshuayi back to Chelsea following his temporary spell at Selhurst Park in 2019, you may have expected the south London outfit to be a little more active in terms of incomings.

Some Eagles supporters have been quick to show some envy to the Midlands outfit with one saying “I’m so jealous”, but another approached the situation with a little more caution and said “I think they’re overdoing it, like Fulham”.

In the video below, find out which Chelsea academy prospect is reportedly being lined up to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Crystal Palace…

That individual may well have a point, seeing as the Cottagers spent more than £100m last summer but still ended up being relegated from the top flight.

Mills makes ridiculous comment about Trippier move

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Danny Mills believes Kieran Trippier could struggle to stay relevant after joining Atletico Madrid, per talkSPORT.

What’s he said?

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that they had reached an agreement with the Spanish club to sell the England international on Wednesday and Football FanCast understands that Atleti will pay £20m for his signature.

It comes after he endured a difficult season in the Premier League that was characterised by a number of mistakes, including a comical own goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

But Mills has questioned the logic in the England international’s move, insisting he will struggle to adapt in La Liga.

He said: “This time last year, coming off the back of the World Cup, he was like a hero. Suddenly, after one or two mistakes, it looks like he’s being moved on.

“It’s a very, very strange situation, is Atletico the right club for him?

“They’re an ultra-defensive club with a manager who basically says to his full-backs, ‘do not cross the halfway line’. It could be a difficult move for him.

“He’s going to have to make this work, otherwise, he could slip off the radar.”

Nonsense – Trippier should be praised

An English player should be admired for taking such a step, not criticised or lumbered with Mills’ needless negativity.

The facts of the matter are these: Trippier is deemed expendable at Spurs, per sources, and needs a fresh start after seeing his stock fall to the point of missing out on England’s squad for the Nations League finals.

A move to Atleti sees him link up with one of the finest defensive coaches in the game in Diego Simeone and gives him the chance to test himself against the likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale. He should be praised for making such a maverick move.

And while it may seem like a left-field signing because Trippier isn’t a traditional defender, his dead-ball expertise – as evidenced so beautifully at the 2018 World Cup – is perfect for Atletico.

Per WhoScored, the Spanish side netted 25% of their goals last season from set-pieces. That number will likely rise if Trippier is on free-kick and corner duty and one can see why the Spanish club have targeted him. The idea of him being a poor fit, in that respect, just doesn’t stack up.

Mills’ comments, then, are needlessly negative and almost set the full-back up to fail. Maybe he is expected to – English players rarely move to the Rojiblancos – but Trippier would do well to ignore him.

Manchester City starlet Phil Foden hailed by Pep Guardiola

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

As quoted by the club’s official website, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed Phil Foden as the “most talented player” he has ever seen at his age.

What did he say?

Widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in English football, Foden has enjoyed a meteoric rise with the Premier League champions since making his debut for the club in the 2017/2018 season.

The 19-year-old enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough campaign last year, and scored his first Premier League goal when he netted the winner against Tottenham in April.

Now, speaking before the Citizens’ pre-season clash against Yokohama, Guardiola delivered glowing praise of the starlet.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

He said: “I said many times in press conferences, but maybe not in front of him. He is the most talented player I have ever seen (for his age).

“His problem is sometimes his manager doesn’t put him in the starting XI. He deserves all the minutes but with his competitors it isn’t easy. He works incredibly. He knows I’m here to help him and I am pretty sure we will get it.”

Destined for the top

Now that’s what you call some high praise. To be getting first-team opportunities for a side containing the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Bernardo Silva, amongst others, is an achievement in itself.

The England U21 international has incredible poise and technique and as Guardiola himself suggested earlier this year, is an “exceptional player” already. Despite the Citizens contending for trophies on all fronts, Guardiola seemingly had enough trust in his abilities to hand him 26 appearances across all competitions.

As he continues to learn and progress under his Spanish manager’s tutelage, there can be no doubting that Foden will fancy his chances of eventually taking over from the likes of De Bruyne and Silva to become City’s attacking lynchpin.

Spurs have no need to re-sign Fernando Llorente with Troy Parrott on the books

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to re-sign Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard’s contract expired at the end of the 2018/19 season and has yet to be renewed, despite his heroics in helping the club to their first-ever Champions League final.

The Daily Mirror reports that he has been offered fresh terms, but that the wages on offer are significantly less than the £100,000-per-week he was previously earning.

He scored the winning goal in the second leg of the quarter-final against Manchester City and was also integral in the semi-final comeback victory over Ajax.

Yet he was allowed to head off into free agency at the end of the season and that has opened the door for Troy Parrott to grab an opportunity.

The 17-year-old striker has won plenty of plaudits throughout pre-season after a number of dynamic displays leading the line, particularly when Harry Kane has been rested.

He was unlucky not to score in the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, an excellent effort struck the post after beating Keylor Navas, and was a strong presence in the unfortunate defeat to Manchester United in the Asia Trophy.

He has yet to score for the senior side but, even still, his performances have been encouraging and his statistics suggest that he has everything it takes to make the step up.

Of course, numbers can be misleading for teenagers, particularly those who have yet to make the step up to senior football on a consistent basis.

He is still a promising prospect, however, having netted 15 goals in 12 outings for the Under-18s and two in 12 for the Under-23s.

And so, Pochettino is faced with a dilemma: He could promote Parrott, the teenager who looks ready to make that step up and who could, potentially, grab it with both hands.

Or he could bring back Llorente, the experienced campaigner who turned 34 in February.

The answer is simple: Pochettino thrives when it comes to bringing the best out of young players and Parrott deserves the opportunity to start.

If it doesn’t work out, Spurs will have the January transfer window in which to potentially recruit a striker.

But they can’t go backwards by bringing Llorente into the fold; Parrott has to be the solution.

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling named as side’s "key player" by Jack Wilshere

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

As quoted by The Manchester Evening News, West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed Raheem Sterling is Manchester City’s “key player”.

What did he say?

City opened up their Premier League title defence with an emphatic 5-0 win over the Hammers, and Wilshere’s first-hand look at the champions saw him single out hat-trick hero Sterling for praise.

He said: “He’s playing in a great team but he’s arguably their key player. He’s never dropped and probably the first name on the teamsheet for Pep. I thought he was brilliant (on Saturday) and he was brilliant last year. It shows what type of character he is to come through (the 2014 World Cup) and to be one of the best players in the league last year.

Watch Manchester City Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

“He’s started well this season. He’s a nightmare to play against. You don’t know if he’s going to come inside and he’s so sharp off the mark.”

A sign of things to come

Year on year, Sterling continues to turn himself into one of the Premier League’s elite goal-scoring wingers. His hat-trick against West Ham was a mark of ruthlessness the 24-year-old is continuing to develop.

Leroy Sane’s unfortunate injury will simply increase the burden on Sterling’s shoulders, but the England international has shown he is capable of stepping up to the plate for Pep Guardiola’s side. Last season, the former Liverpool ace found the back of the net 25 times in 51 appearances across all competitions, and also showed a more selfless side with an impressive 18 assists.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

As City continue to pursue titles on multiple fronts, Sterling will be expected to have another fine campaign. And on the basis of his first performance in the league, despite all the talent on show at the Etihad, he may well be the champions’ most pivotal figure, just as Wilshere said.
